Cal’s Valera, Casabella Named To Spanish Team At World Junior WP Championships

Freshmen men’s water polo student-athletes Roberto Valera and Max Casabella have been named to the Spain Junior National Team and will compete at the FINA Junior World Championship, which begins Saturday in Prague, Czech Republic.

Valera helped Spain capture the silver medal at the 2019 U17 LEN European Junior Championship. He is a four-time MVP and two-time silver medalist at the Spanish Junior Championship.

Casabella also won a silver medal at the 2019 U17 LEN European Junior Championship and is a two-time bronze medalist at the Spanish Junior Championship.

Valera and Casabella join Cal teammates Adrian Weinberg, George Avakian and Sam Untrecht of Team USA as participants at the FINA Junior World Championship.

Group play begins Saturday. Spain and the USA are in the same group and will go head-to-head on Monday.

The Bears open the 2021 season Sept. 4-5 at the Navy Open.
