Campbell Women Sweep Tri-Meet Over GWU, ODU; Monarch Men Top Runnin’ Bulldogs

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell picked up two wins by topping Gardner-Webb and Old Dominion Saturday at a tri-meet at the Johnson Aquatic Center. The Camels beat GWU 175-86 and bested ODU 150-111 in the final home meet of the 2021-22 season.

Campbell got off to a hot start with a first-place finish in the meet’s first event, the 400 medley relay. The team posted a time of 3:54.62 to take the top spot by three seconds.

Annie Sanchez continued her dominance of the 200 free with another first place finish, this time in 1:53.54, nearly three seconds ahead of second place. Meredith AshburnColleen Renshaw and Erica Losey took third, fourth and fifth to give the Camels four of the top five finishes in the event.

Campbell took three of the top four in the next event, the 100 back. Julia Sherlock grabbed the top spot at 58.33, followed by Maialen Sudupe and Skyler Roerig in third and fourth.

The Camels took three of the top four again in the 50 free. Renshaw touched first at 24.21, just ahead of teammate Meredith Ashburn in second at 24.50. Neringa Cerniauskaite took fourth at 24.85.

It was more of the same after the intermission with Sanchez and Renshaw going 1-2 in the 100 free, as Sanchez posted the top time at 52.64. Ashburn and Cerniausaite also took fourth and fifth in the race.

Sherlock picked up two more individual wins on the day in the 200 back with a time of 2:06.82 and the 100 fly in 58.45.

CU freestyle ended the day the with a first-place finish and a time 1:36.79.

Campbell will now take a few weeks off to train for the Liberty Invitational slated for Nov. 19-21 in Lynchburg, Va.

BUIES CREEK, N.C.  – The Old Dominion University men’s swimming team defeated Gardner-Webb, while the ODU women’s team topped the Bulldogs 188-73 on Saturday at a tri-meet at Campbell on Saturday.

The men’s squad defeated G-W 153-109, while the women’s team topped G-W 188-73. The women fell to Campbell, 150-111.

“The competition between the teams today was great. Our Monarchs started the meet out aggressive and held the intensity through some challenging races to really put us in a great position for the reminder of the season. We are looking forward to a great three weeks of training as we prepare for the WVU Invitational in November,” ODU head coach Jess Livsey said.

The men’s squad earned its first win of the day with a win in the 400-medley relay, as Gustaf HanssonPeter DurisinLiam Redman and Noah Wilkins won in a time of 3:27.28.

Miranda Byrne earned the first win for the women’s team with a time of 10:54.84 to win the 1,000 freestyle. Teammate Brynn Jewell came in second with a time of 10:55.28.

Freshman Carson Doll added another win for the men’s side in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:59.55. Doll won again, this time in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:49.69.

Wilkins added a win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.50, while Ryan Lincicum came in second with a time of 1:44.19. Wilkins added his second win of the day, this time edging out Redman in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.37. Redman finished in 47.48.

Tara Enneking entered the win column, winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.08. She added a win in the 200 breaststroke with a. time of 2:25.05. Teammate Martina Ciriesi finished second with a time of 2:27.33. Enneking finished off the winning hat trick with a win in the 200 IM, taking the top spot with a time of 2:07.38. Ciriesi again came in second with a time of 2:11.15.

Peter Durisin continued the winning ways for ODU with a nearly three-second win in the 100 breaststroke, with a time of 58.90.

The Monarchs’ success in the sprints continued with Liam Redman winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.42.

Jacob Cobb won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:53.91. He added another victory, this one in the 200 IM, with a time of 1:58.44.

In the final event of the day, the women’s 200 freestyle relay team came in second with a time of 1:36.79. Byrne, Mary DunworthLaila Webb and Summer Miln swam the final race for ODU.

The men’s 200 freestyle relay team of Redman,  Doll, Lincicum and Wilkins won the final race for the men with a time of 1:24.64.

BUIES CREEK, N.C. –  The Gardner-Webb swim team hit the water on Saturday, the men took on Old Dominion University and the women faced Campbell University and Old Dominion.

In the women’s 400-yard medley relay, the squad of Delaney WilletteAbby SurleyParis Binard, and Alyssa Church took fifth-place with a time of 4:05.62 at the finish.

As for the men’s first relay of the day, the squad of Brady FieldsChristian JannCullen Fields, and Logan Cornelison took second in the 400-yard medley with a time of 3:31.79 at the wall.

Adrianna Barone placed third in the women’s 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in a time of 11:02.03.

In the men’s 1,000-yard freestyle, Garret Despres took home second place with a finishing time of 10:05.54.

Logan Cornelison took third in the men’s 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.38, and teammate Theo Drescher followed in fourth with a time of 1:45.59 at the wall.

As for the men’s 100-yard backstroke, Brady Fields claimed first-place with a time of 51.77 seconds.

In the women’s 100-yard breaststroke, Gabby Doss placed third with a time of 1:08.20 at the finish.

Ryan Taylor took second in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.07, Austin Wheeler finished in third with a time of 1:01.16, and Logan Butner followed in fourth with a time of 1:01.50 at the finish.

Clara Schlimper had a big first-place finish for the ‘Dogs in the women’s 200-yard butterfly, clocking in a time of 2:09.43 at the wall.

As for the men’s 200-yard butterfly, Cullen Fields beat out the competition by over two seconds to take first in the event with a time of 1:56.81 at the finish.

Brady Fields took second in the men’s 50-yard freestyle, clocking in a smoking fast time of 21.49, teammate Zuri Ramsey followed in third with a time of 21.93 seconds.

In the men’s 100-yard freestyle, Long Cornelison placed third with a time of 48.30 at the wall, Zuri Ramsey followed in fourth with a time of 48.52.

Mariana Valles placed sixth in the women’s 200-yard backstroke, as she hit the touchpad with a time of 2:13.78 on the clock.
As for the men’s 200-yard backstroke, Landon Clark took second with a time of 1:57.03 and teammate Bryan Dunne following in third with a time of 1:59.75 at the finish.

In the women’s 200-yard breaststroke, Gabby Doss took third-place with a time of 2:28.05 at the finish.

Ryan Taylor claimed first-place for the men in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing with a time of 2:12.07.

The women led a one-two-three sweep in the 500-yard freestyle, Emma Maust clocked a time of 5:16.95, Clara Schlimper swam a time of 5:22.03, and Ellie Eckert finished with a time of 5:23.49.

Theo Drescher took second overall in the men’s 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:52.44 at the wall.

As for the men’s 100-yard butterfly, Cullen Fields took first-place for the Runnin’ Bulldogs with a time of 52.13 seconds at the finish, Seggio Bernardina took third with a time of 53.28 seconds at the wall.

In the men’s 200-yard individual medley, Christian Jann placed second with a time of 2:00.76 and Ryan Taylor look third with a time of 2:01.29 at the finish.

As for the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay, the squad of Brady FieldsSeggio BernardinaZuri Ramsey, and Logan Cornelison took second-place with a time of 1:25.41 at the wall.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday, November 19th, as they travel to Charlotte to swim in the Fall Frenzy hosted by Queen University.
