Camryn Curry, Meg Burton Commit To Arizona State

The Arizona State women have two more swimmers joining them next fall, as Camryn Curry and Meg Burton have given their verbal commitments to the Sun Devils.

Curry is a swimmer for Quest Swimming, and will graduate from Midlothian High School in Virginia. Burton is a member of Nova of Virginia Aquatics, and will head to ASU after graduating from Trinity Episcopal School.

Camryn Curry:

Curry is primarily a backstroker, but also extends to the IMs, 100 fly, and middle distance free. Last season, she was a top 16 finisher in 3 different events at the short course NCSA Spring Championships. There, she swam best times of 54.91 in the 100 back (15th), 1:58.78 in the 200 back (14th), and 2:03.11 in the 200 IM (16th). She also lowered her 100 fly time to a 56.45 at that meet.

In the long course pool this summer, Curry was a 2-time finalist at the long course NCSA Championships. Her highest finish came in the 50 back, where she placed 5th. She also swam to a 6th place finish in the 100 back and a 12th place finish in the 200 back.

Curry’s Top Times:

Event Best time
100 back 54.91
200 back 1:58.78
100 fly 56.45
200 IM 2:03.11
400 IM 4:20.57
200 free 1:49.40

Curry should be an immediate scorer for ASU at the Pac-12 Championships, as her times in the 100 back and 200 back are already fast enough to have scored at the 2016 conference meet. She also has a time that could score in the 400 IM (4:20.57), and is just over a second shy of scoring range in the 200 IM and 100 fly.

Meg Burton:

Burton is a fly/backstroker, but she also extends her schedule to the sprint freestyles. Last season, she brought her personal best in the 100 back down to a 56.38 at the short course Virginia Senior Championships.

Burton then went on to compete in the sprint free, back, and fly races at the 2016 NCSA Spring Championships. There, she finished in the top 30 of the 100 fly with a new personal best of 55.36. She also swam new best times in the 200 back (2:02.49), 100 free (52.68), and 50 free (24.31).

Burton’s Top Times:

Event Best time
100 fly 55.36
100 back 56.38
200 back 2:02.49
50 free 24.31
100 free 52.68

Burton should have an immpediate impact for the Sun Devils at the Pac-12 Championships, as her times in the 100 fly and 100 back are already fast enough to have scored in the C-final last season. She’s also just a second shy of scoring range in the 200 back, so she could be a 3-event scorer as a freshman with marginal improvements.
