GUELPH, Ont. Jordan Tucker will be withdrawing from the World Para Swimming Championships due to injury.

The 21-year-old from Royal City Aquatics in Guelph, Ont., suffered a broken left radial head in her elbow due to a fall late last month. In discussions with her coach Amanda Reimer, Senior Team Coach and National Team Performance Manager Mike Thompson, and medical personnel, Tucker has decided to focus on her recovery to prepare for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

“It’s disappointing because I worked really hard to make the worlds team and I was so excited when I did,” said Tucker, who won three medals including multi-class gold in the 150-m individual medley at the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in April.

“I just need to focus on my rehab so I can get back to where I was before my injury. There will be other opportunities so I will keep working to get better and get faster.”

Tucker made a promising national team debut at last year’s World Para Swimming Championships in Madeira, Portugal. She swam in five finals, finishing as high as 6th in the 150-m individual medley SM4.

She has lowered her personal best in 10 events over the past six months, including her Canadian S5 records in the 50-m and 100-m butterfly

“Jordan is doing a really important thing by not just trying to be a participant in a world-class meet. She wants to perform and she wants to be good. She’s taking a look at what’s important and making the rational decision for the longevity of her career, not just this year’s worlds,” Thompson said.

“It’s a really unfortunate circumstance but it’s important to reframe it and find ways to be grateful about what she can do,” Reimer added. “She’s had the support of the national team in making this decision and the people surrounding her care about what’s best for her in the future.”
