Canada’s Serena Xue Will Cross a Contintent For Penn

For more commitment articles, be sure to check out SwimSwam’s College Recruiting channel.

Serena Xue, who currently trains at the Richmond Rapids Swim Club in Richmond, British Columbia, has committed to the University of Pennsylvania. Xue is a breaststroke specialist who should step right in and make a contribution to the Quakers:

  • 50 breaststroke- 33.19 SCM (29.90 SCY)
  • 100 breaststroke- 1:11.69 SCM (1:04.58 SCY)
  • 200 breaststroke- 2:32.33 SCM (2:17.23)

Both her 100 and 200 breaststroke would have scored at the 2015 Ivy Women’s Championship. In fact, she would have been around 5th after prelims in the 200 breaststroke with her converted time. It’s worth noting that while both short course meters and yards are fairly comparable, we still have yet to see just exactly how Xue’s talents will translate.

Xue has shown steady improvement over the past few years and has been moving her way up through the Canadian ranks. Most recently at the 2015 Canadian Pan-American Games trials she qualified for a B-Final in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:35.90 in the 200 breaststroke (Long course).

The 200 breaststroke was and will continue to be a strong event for the Quakers, they placed two swimmers in the A-Final at Ivies last year and return both for the 2015-2016 season.
