Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
David Quirie has announced his verbal commitment to swim at Florida State University beginning next fall. Quirie hails from Nepean, Ontario in Canada. He is a senior at John McCrae Secondary School and trains under Scott Faithfull at Nepean Kanata Barracudas. David’s brother Scott Quirie swam for NJIT and was named Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2017-18.
“I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to Florida State University. I look forward to joining their rising distance group and becoming part of the engineering program. GO NOLES!”
Quirie specializes in distance freestyle. He had an excellent long-course season in 2019, beginning with Canadian Trials in April. There, he went best times in the 100/200/400/800 free, 50 back, and 400 IM. He came in 10th in the 800, 12th in the 1500, 15th in the 400 free, 17th in the 400 IM, and 19th in the 200 free. At the Eastern Canadian Championships in April, he went a best time in the 1500 free and placed 2nd. He was also runner-up in the 200 free, 4th in the 400 IM, and 9th in the 100 free. Quirie won the 400/1500 free at the Ontario Summer Championships, where he swam to a PB in the 100 fly. Finally, Quirie competed at TYR ISCA Summer Senior Championships and notched PBs in the 50 free and 200 IM.
Quirie competed for Canada at the 2019 UANA (Swimming Union of the Americas) Pan American Junior Open Water Swimming Championships held at Lake Andrea in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin in August. Teaming up with Kate Sullivan, Kenna Smallegange, and Alexander Axon, he earned a silver medal in the mixed 5km relay for 14-17 year-olds.

Quirie’s 1650 converted time would have placed 25th at 2019 ACC Championships, where FSU finished 5th of 12 teams. It took 15:29.66 to score in the mile. He needed 4:23.54 to get a second swim in the 500 free, 1:36.62 in the 200 free, and 3:51.02 in the 400 IM. Quirie will join the Seminoles’ class of 2024 with Rush Clark.
