Canadian World Championship Trials – Day two Prelims

Women’s 100 freestyle

The women’s 100 freestyle should be a great race with only nine tenths of a second between the top qualifier and the eighth qualifier. Olympian Victoria Poon who represents PPO qualified first in a time of 55.42 followed closely by Chantel Vanlandeghem who qualified second in a time of 55.44.

Vanlandeghem is a member of the Georgia Bulldogs team that took the top spot at the recent NCAA.

Sandrine Mainville, who qualified for Barcelona last night in the 50 butterfly, qualified third in a time of 55.55.

Men’s 100 freestyle

It also appears that the men’s 100 freestyle will be a tight race with only half a second separating the qualifiers. Chris Manning of W. Ross Macdonald Swimming qualified first in a time of 50.32 followed by UBC Dolphins Kelly Aspinall who posted a time of 50.46.

Luke Peddie of the UBC Dolphins Vancouver National Swim Centre qualified third in a time of 50.71.

Women’s 100 breaststroke

The final tonight will feature four Olympians; Jillian Tyler, Tera Van Beilen and Martha McCabe. Tyler qualified first in a time of 1:08.91 followed by Chelsey Salli, who represents the Langley Olympian Swim Club, but competed for the University of Arizona at NCAA Championships, qualified second in a time of 1:08.94.

McCabe qualified third in a time of 1:08.99.

Men’s 100 breaststroke

Edmonton Keyano’s Richard Funk qualified first in a time of 1:02.09 followed by the University of Calgary Swim Club’s Jason Block who touched in a time of 1:02.20.

Igor Kozlovskij of Lithuania qualified third in a time of 1:02.58.

Women’s 400 IM

Island Swimming’s Alexa Kormarnycky qualified first in a time of 4:47.22.

Toronto Swim Club’s Vanessa Treasure qualified second posting a time of 4:48.33 followed by Manta’s Breanna Siwicki who qualified third in a time of 4:49.22.

Men’s 400 IM

Island’s Alec Page, who swam the 400 IM in London, qualified first in a time of 4:23.08 followed by UBC Dolphins Luke Rielly who qualified second in a time of 4:25.19.

Page’s teammate Will Brothers qualified third in a time of 4:25.53.

Women’s 50 backstroke

Sinead Russell, who qualified for the World Championship team last night in the 100 backstroke, qualified first in a time of 28.70 followed by Cobra Swim Club’s Paige Miller qualified second touching in a time of 28.81.

Cascade’s Brooklyn Snodgrass qualified third in a time of 29.26.

Men’s 50 backstroke

New Market Stingrays’ Matthew Swanston qualified first in a time of 26.07 followed by ESWIM’s Gleb Suvorov who qualified second posting a time of 26.23.

Cascade’s Russell Wood qualified third in a time of 26.29.
