The Canadian duo Baillie Cameron and Simon Meier are crossing America’s northern border to swim at the NCAA Division I level.
Cameron, who comes from the Mississauga Aquatic Club (MSSAC), has chosen Virginia Tech to be her new home for 2016-17. Cameron can make an impact for the Hokies with her 100 and 200 breaststroke. When converted using the Speedo Swim Time Converter, her 100 SCM breast converts to a 1:03.03 in yards and the 200 breast comes out to a 2:17.71 in yards. Those converted events place her in the top-five times recorded by the Hokies last season, making Cameron’s international recruitment a smart move by Virginia Tech.

Canada is sending another to NCAA Division I with Manta Swim Club’s Simon Meier, who’s chosen to swim for the University of Minnesota. He brings an aptitude for breaststroke as well, delivering the Golden Gophers a converted 57.26 100 yard breast and a 2:01.68 200 yard breast upon his arrival. Additionally, Meier’s got some mid-distance free talent with his 400 SCM free coming out to a sound 4:35.32 for a 500 yard free. He’ll need to shave off a few seconds before he’s an impact swimmer in the Big Ten Conference but he’s given Minnesota an admirable set of skills they can build from.
“The team and coaching staff at Minnesota are exactly what I’ve been looking for in my college search. On top of that the academics, campus, and facilities are all exceptional! I’m so excited to be a Golden Gopher next year, I know it’s going to be an unbelievable experience!”
