Canisius College Picks Up Verbal Commitment from Maddy Chapin

Madison “MaddyChapin has made a verbal commitment to Canisius College in Buffalo, New York for 2017-18. That’s a straight shot west on Interstate 90, about 80 miles from her home in Victor, where she attends Victor High School and is a tri-captain for Victor Swim Club. Chapin stated, “I felt at home as soon as I walked on campus, the team and the coaches were so welcoming. I know Canisius will be a place we’re I can grow as a student and a swimmer. Go Griffs!”

Head coach and Director of Victor Swim Club, Michael Murray, had this to say about his swimmer, “Maddy helped our women’s team finish in the top 3 at the 2016 Eastern Futures Championships. Additionally, Maddy is a 4 time Speedo Sectional Finalist and has continuously placed in the top 8 at the Niagara LSC championships over the past 5 years.”

Chapin is a versatile swimmer who specializes mostly in backstroke and IM. She had a very strong junior year in high school, updating her times in every backstroke, butterfly and IM event, short course and long course. She also improved in off events, such as 200/500/1000 free and 200 breast. Chapin had her best meets at the Niagara LSC SCY Championships in the spring, and at the Niagara LSC LCM Championships at the end of July.

  • 100 back – 58.81
  • 200 back – 2:09.25
  • 200 IM – 2:13.11
  • 400 IM – 4:45.82
  • 100 fly – 1:01.39
  • 200 fly – 2:14.23
