Cape Murch Elliot to Join Sisters Billy and Currie at Cornell

One more and they could have their own relay. With Cape Murch Elliot’s verbal commitment* to Cornell University’s Class of 2020, the three sisters from North Carolina (current juniors Billy and Currie, and now Cape) will have a year together as Big Red teammates.

Like her sisters before her, Murch Elliot is from Weddington, North Carolina. She is homeschooled and is a two-time member of the USA Swimming Scholastic All-America team. Murch Elliot swims for SwimMAC Carolina and specializes in breaststroke and IM. Her top times are:

  SCY LCM
50 breast   34.07
100 breast 1:03.60 1:13.45
200 breast 2:18.29 2:39.30
200 IM 2:07.24 2:24.36
400 IM 4:25.69 5:03.45
100 back 59.44 1:08.28
200 back 2:04.87 2:25.55
50 free   27.94
100 free   1:00.22

Murch Elliot is a terrific pick up for the Big Red. Both her 100 and 200 breast times would have made their respective “A” finals at the 2015 Ivy League Women’s Championships, and she would have been Cornell’s only “A” finalist.

Cornell is a program on the rise in the Ivy League, and the Murch Elliot sisters have been a big part of that. The arrival of their younger sister should strengthen the roster that much more, and give the Big Red an opportunity to challenge Brown and Columbia.

*DISCLAIMER: Murch Elliot has not yet been officially accepted to Cornell. As is true with all Ivy League schools, Cornell’s Admission Office will not send its acceptance letter until the beginning of December, along with those of all Early Action candidates. The procedure for a recruited athlete like Murch Elliot is for Admissions to review her transcript and SAT scores, “support her application for admissions in the fall,” issue a Likely Letter, then offer her acceptance into the class of 2020.
