At the Indiana High School Girls State Meet, the Carmel High School Girls broke the National High School Record with a time of 1:40.83. The relay team of Hanna House, Alex Clarke, Veronica Burchill, and Amy Bilquist beat the old National Public School record of 1:41.01, set by Holland High School, Michigan, in 2011. The Carmel girls have won 27 consecutive state championships and are in route to their 28th at the IUPUI Natatorium.
The independent national high school record in this event is still slightly faster. Carondelet High School in California posted a time of 1:40.73 in 2011.
Last night in prelims, the Carmel girls broke 5 Indiana State Records and have set themselves up to break several more. This may be the best team Carmel has ever sent to the state championships. They advanced all three relays and then all 27 of their individual swims to the state finals!
Carmel is coached by Chris Plumb, who has 23 girls from his club team represented at the Indiana High School State Championships this weekend, 20 of which are on his high school team.
The most impressive thing about Carmel this weekend is 27/27 qualifying for finals…

Alex Clarke was the breastroke leg, Burchill was fly ( from picture caption).
Any split comparisons?
@Chris: Unfortunately, the splits are messed up between the butterfly leg and the freestyle leg in the results. When and if we receive the correct splits, we will be sure to post them.
Bilquiist split a 21.9 anchoring in prelims- pretty amazing .If you check out results from winter juniors Burchill split 23.7 in the fly so she’s got some serious speed. Crazy fast second half of their relay. Can’t wait to see if Hershey can challenge a few records.
