Carmel High School Women Break Own 200 Medley Relay Public School Record en Route to 25th Straight Title

The Carmel, Indiana, High School swim team broke the 200 medley relay broke the National High School Record in the women’s 200 yard medley relay on Saturday at the Indiana High School State Championships.

The quartet of sophomore Lacey Locke (25.71), senior Samantha Shaheen (28.51), sophomore Ariana Bullard (24.55), and senior Carly Marshall (22.65) combined for a mark of 1:41.42. This bettered their own public school mark of 1:41.68 set in 2009. On that same day, they set the National Public School  in the 200 free relay as well.

The four members of this year’s record setting relay were an entirely new squad that the one in 2009, that had as it’s swimmers Jessie Hammes, Lauren Stauder, Devon Mason, and Megan Detro.

The previous overall record was held by The Baylor School, which returns the favor of Baylor taking the 200 free record overall mark from Carmel this weekend. That quartet, Arden Pitman, Alison Lusk, Anna Rae Gwarjanski, and Sloane Pitman, clocked a 1:41.63 in 2009.

The Carmel women easily won the State Championship, marking the 25th straight year they have done so. According to the High School Sports Record Book, this ties them for the fourth longest streak in the country, in any sport, ever.
