Carmel Swim Club’s Hayley Reed Announces Verbal Commitment to Columbia

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Hayley Reed of Carmel, Indiana has announced her verbal commitment to swim at Columbia as a member of their class of 2026.

Reed swims for Carmel Swim Club and Carmel High School. At the 2021 OHSAA Girls High School State Championships back in February, Reed helped Carmel defend their title via a third place finish in the 100 butterfly (55.04) and an 8th place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:51.12). More recently, Reed swam at the Indiana Senior Long Course Championships last month, placing 4th overall in the 100 butterfly (1:03.65).

Best Times SCY

  • 100 fly – 54.76
  • 200 fly – 2:05.01
  • 200 IM – 2:10.20
  • 400 IM – 4:33.03

With her best times, Reed would have had the fastest 100 butterfly time on Columbia’s roster for the 2019-2020 season (note: the Ivy League canceled the 2020-2021 season due to COVID-19). In that position, Reed will make a valuable addition to Columbia’s 400 medley relay, where Olivia Jubin has the fastest split of the season in 53.87. When Reed enters her freshman year at Columbia, Jubin will be beginning her senior season. In addition, Reed’s best time in the 200 butterfly would have placed her 4th amongst Columbia’s swimmers for the 2019 season.

At the 2020 Ivy League Championships, Reed’s best time in the 100 butterfly would have ranked her 17th out of prelims, placing her in the C-final. She also would have made the C-final in the 200 butterfly and 400 IM, both events where Columbia only had 3 swimmers make the finals. Columbia ultimately placed 6th overall at the Championships with a total of 755 points.

With her commitment, Reed is set to join Lindsay Orringer, Grace Dunn, and Olivia Kim in Columbia’s class of 2026.
