Indiana is a state that’s crazy about their high school swimming. You’ll find no better evidence than the video we received from the girls of Carroll High School. Right off the bat we see the team leaving their school to the cheers of their classmates. The school is located in the Fort Wayne metro area northeast of Indianapolis.
The video follows the girls to Indianapolis, where they competed in the 2016 Indiana High School Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championship. Carroll finished 9th overall in the meet. Their high point came in the 200 freestyle relay. The team of Abigail Johnston, Courtney Kresl, Mykenzie Kostka and Zoe Toscos finished 3rd in that race. Kresl, Johnston, and Toscos joined Avery Brooks for a 400 freestyle relay that finished 7th to finish the meet. In the video you get to walk right up to the podium with them.
Johnston was the top individual scorer for the Chargers. She finished in the top eight of both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
The team was coming off a nailbiting sectional title the week before. Carroll is coached by John Gibson. Gibson is also the coach of Northwest Aquatic Club, which practices out of the Carroll High School Natatorium.
Proud of what these ladies accomplished this year! I only had the privilege of coaching them for one summer, but they were nothing but the greatest, and whatever path they choose I have the utmost confidence that they will find success. Congratulations Lady Chargers!
