KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads held their first intrasquad meet of the fall on Saturday at Koenitzer Aquatic Center. The event was also an opportunity for alumni, families and friends of the programs to donate to Carthage’s equity and inclusion work and the new campus Intercultural Center (donations can still be taken through the weekend at carthage.edu/give/swimming-dei).
In the events for the women, Jordyn Kaplan won the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard breaststroke. Jordyn Bloode also won two events on the day in the 100-yard individual medley and 50-yard backstroke while Elise Merucci won the 50-yard butterfly.
On the men’s side, Nick Seroni came in first in the 50-yard breaststroke, 100-yard individual medley and 50-yard backstroke. Mitchel Steinke took first place in the 50-yard freestyle, Christian Snyder won the 50-yard butterfly while Sam Wallace won the three-meter diving event.
One way for supporters to donate was to pledge certain amounts to have the swimmer of their choice swim a longer distance. Nick Seroni swam the 200 butterfly, Alec Makenas, Garrett Shuldes and Spencer Bury swam the 100 butterfly, Mitchel Steinke swam the 200 backstroke, Jordyn Bloode swam the 100 backstroke, Ethan Hare and Jack Piccoli swam the 200 IM, and Nick Nevins swam the 100 breaststroke.
“Our intrasquad meet was a great opportunity to race as a team for the first time this season,” said men’s swimming and diving head coach Seth Weidmann. “It was also a fun way to connect virtually with alums, families and other supporters of our swimming and diving programs. Just as meaningful was our opportunity to fundraise for the important equity and inclusion work that is happening on Carthage’s campus. Our support of that work falls in line with the rest of our department’s Advocacy In Athletics efforts.”
