SALISBURY, NC — Catawba College Head Swimming Coach, Matthew Gearing, announced the addition of Oryan Malul to the swimming staff as the Graduate Assistant Coach.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Oryan back to the team this year,” said Gearing. “She has been apart of the program for the past five years so, having her knowledge of the program will be extremely valuable as we begin a new era of Catawba swimming.”
This is a first of its kind position for the swim team as Malul will serve as the first graduate assistant in program history.
“Swimming has been a significant part of my life for the past 20 years. I am grateful to have the opportunity to explore it from a coaching perspective in a place that I call home and with a team I consider family.” Malul said about her new position with the Catawba College swimming program.
The family culture within the program is especially prevelant for Malul and two of her brothers. Yakir Malul, swam and graduated from Catawba in 2012, and her younger brother Ofek enters his senior year with plans to graduate from Catawba in the spring of 2023.
During her time at Catawba, Malul broke the school record in the 200 Fly four total times. She also received the Whitener Award which is given to the top Female Senior of the graduating class, and she was named to the Honor Roll each semester since 2018.
“I’d like to thank our President, Dr. Nelson, and our Athletic Director, Michelle Caddigan, for allowing us this opportunity to have another staff member on deck,” Gearing continued. “This will directly impact our student-athletes and allow us to deliver the best experience possible for them.”
Malul graduated from Catawba in 2021 with her Bachlor’s Degree in Biology. She will pursue her BSN from the nursing program with plans to graduate in 2023.
