CAT’s Chris Balbo Gives Verbal Commitment to William & Mary

For more commitment articles, be sure to check out SwimSwam’s College Recruiting channel.

William & Mary has landed a top-level commitment from NJ’s Cougar Aquatic Team in Chris Balbo. He finished third in the 500 free at the NJ HS Meet of Champions representing Millburn High School, though his versatility stretches between many distance-oriented events.

I chose William and Mary because of the great coaching staff and enthusiasm from both the team and the coaches. I’m excited to become a part of an amazing academic institution and team. I can’t wait to join the Tribe’s Class of 2020! Go Tribe!

Balbo’s Top Times

  • 500 free – 4:35.77
  • 1650 free – 15:51.94
  • 200 fly – 1:53.30
  • 200 IM – 1:54.49
  • 400 IM – 3:59.65

Balbo has Winter Juniors cuts in the 400 IM in both courses along with a Juniors cut in the 200m fly (2:07.01).

At last year’s CAA Championships, Balbo would have been a B finalist in the 400 IM and finished 15th in the mile. Balbo will join a program which excels in events that he’s strongest at– the Tribe returns CAA 400 IM 1st and 3rd place finishers from last season as well as their top milers, who finished 11th and 12th last season.

Balbo would’ve been their #3 miler and #5 400 IMer last season. He will join his CAT teammate Morgan Smith on the Tribe; Smith is a freshman this season. Balbo also adds to an incoming class which includes Colin Wright and Lee Bradley. The Tribe will look to build on last year’s conference title, their first in program history.
