Cave Takes Down Two More Records at Australian State Teams Age Champs

17 year old Daniel Cave of Victoria took down his second and third competition records on the final day of the 2016 Australian Sate Teams Age Group Short Course Championships. Cave, who set the championship record in the boys 16-17 200 breaststroke on Saturday, set new records in both the 50 and 100 breaststroke on Sunday. He won the 50 in a time of 27.18 and followed that up by taking the 100 in a time of 1:00.05.

Cave was not the only athlete to set a new record on Sunday evening as Se-Bom Lee of New South Wales set a new championship mark in the boys 14-15 400 IM posting a time of 4:23.89. David Schlicht of Victoria, who won the boys 16-17 200 IM and 200 butterfly earlier in the weekend, picked up his third gold in the 400 IM recording a time of 4:15.56.

There were four athletes from New Zealand who walked with gold on the final evening in Canberra. Brear Crawford won the girls 13-14 50 breaststroke in a time of 33.06 while Kaylee Jackson took the girls 15-16 event in a time of 32.08. Ciara Smith won the girls 15-16 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:10.46 while Zachary Dell took the boys 14-15 200 backstroke.

In the final event of the evening Queensland won a very tight battle in the 4 x 100 mixed freestyle relay. Queensland posted a time of 3:14.87 followed by Victoria that recorded a 3:14.93 and New South Wales who finished in a time of 3:15.11.

New South Wales collected five golds on Sunday evening the most of any state. Queensland grabbed four while Victoria finished with three.
