CBU Sweeps Platform Events At Lancer Diving Invite

MISSION VIEJO – The California Baptist University dive teams hosted day one of the Lancer Dive Invite, competing at the Mission Viejo Nadadores Platform center, with Lancers claiming wins in both the men’s and women’s events.

Gael Jimenez posted the winning score in the finals, a mark of 361.95, to claim the win for CBU. Teammate Evan Honer finished in second place with a score of 357.30.

The Lancers made it a clean sweep of the platform podium as John Angelovic finished the finals in third place with a score of 309.75. That score secured his qualifying mark for the 2023 NCAA Zone Qualifiers. Jacob Penman rounded out the men’s finals in sixth place with a score of 229.90.

Natalia Bedolla earned CBU’s second first-place finish of the day, recording a score of 244.80, joining fellow freshman Angelovic in securing a qualifying result for the zones. Another Lancer freshman, Audrey Easter, made it to the women’s finals. Easter put up a score of 202.00 to claim seventh place in the finals of Friday’s competition.

The Invite continues on Saturday back on the campus of California Baptist. The Lancers will host the 1-and-3-meter springboard competitions at the Lancers Aquatics Center beginning at 10 a.m.
