CCSU Women Take Down Wagner & SCSU; Seahawk Men Defeat Owls

The Central Connecticut State swimming and diving team won a pair of dual meets on Saturday to improve to 3-1 in dual meet action.

The Blue Devils defeated Northeast Conference member Wagner, 141-121, and defeated Southern Connecticut State 207-73.

The Blue Devils return to competition the first weekend of December at the Gompie Invitational

RELAYS

  • Abbey Keane picked up another convincing win in the 1,000 freestyle, going 10:30.88, more than 11 seconds clear of the runner-up
  • Maggie Rutledge placed third in the 1,000 with a swim of 10:51.59
  • Welcome took the top spot in the 200 freestyle, with a swim of 1:54.74, with Spaciano third at 1:57.33 and Keane fourth at 1:58.41
  • O’Leary won for a second time, capturing the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.42
  • Welcome placed second in the 100 freestyle with a swim of 53.75, and was followed in third place by Kelly Stotler (54.42)
  • Keane picked up her second individual win of the day in the 500 freestyle, touching at 5:11.87, nearly six full seconds in front of the runner up
  • Welcome (5:18.26), Spaciano (5:19.32) and Rutledge (5:19.73) finished 3-4-5 in the race
  • O’Leary picked up her first individual win of the meet with a 57.72 effort in the 100 backstroke
  • Gabi Wroblewski (2:12.09) and Sophie Milhomens (2:13.23) posted a convincing 1-2 finish in the 200 butterfly
  • Cassidy Stotler claimed the top spot in the 100 butterfly, with a swim of 58.92
  • Wroblewski won again by running away with the 400 IM, finishing in 4:37.39, while Milhomens (4:42.55) and Morgan O’Hara (4:43.55) finished third and fourth respectively
  • Milhomens (2:06.69) was 0.5 seconds off of the top spot in the 200 backstroke, an event that Dunnigan placed third (2:09.28)
  • Cassidy Stotler was second in both the 100 breaststroke, clocking a 1:07.23, and 200 breaststroke, at 2:24.96
  • Jewelle Maziarz had the top score in the 1-meter diving, scoring 250.30 points, and was second with 218.25 points on the high board
  • Kaitlyn Carroll had the high-score on the 3-meter board, finishing at 237.83, after her 219.47 points was good for the second-best point total on the low board

New Haven, CT – The Wagner men’s and women’s swimming & diving team competed in its second tri-meet of the season on Saturday against Southern Connecticut State and CCSU.

The men defeated the hosts in Southern Connecticut State, 184-104, to secure their first victory of the season. The women defeated the Owls, 178-102, but fell to Northeast Conference (NEC) member CCSU, 141-121.

Wagner bookended the tri-meet with victories in all four relay events. The men and women kicked off the day with wins in their respective 200-yard medley relays and ended the event with respective wins in the 200-yard freestyle relays.

Individually, the Seahawks captured 16 first place podiums.

At one point in the tri-meet, the Seahawks won six straight events, starting with fifth year Olivia Bishop in the 100-yard freestyle. Bishop continued her stellar start to the year with a time of 53.26 in the event.

In the next event, freshman Jasu Ovaskainen secured first place in the men’s 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.91.

Sophomores Aura Vilarrasa and Kaan Nalçaci made it four victories in a row with wins in the 200-yard backstroke events. Freshman Rebekka Luoto and sophomore Ranger Gavino capped off the dominant stretch for the Seahawks with first place finishes in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Nalçaci, Luoto, Ovaskainen and Gavino each secured an additional individual victory Saturday.

Nalçaci won the 200-yard freestyle, Luoto won the 100-yard breaststroke, Ovaskainen secured first in the 100-yard butterfly and Gavino took home the top spot in the 400-yard IM.

Sophomore Ruben Van Gool also secured multiple individual victories at the tri-meet. With a time of 9:56.96, the Madrid, Spain native earned first place in the 1000-yard freestyle event. Van Gool then delivered in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:49.89.

Additional individual victories included junior Robert Wagner securing his first victory at Wagner in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.58. Former NEC Rookie of the Week Nikkolai Carrillo earned first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.02.

Sophomores Joel Knaapi and Alex Magditch also won in their respective events. Knaapi secured first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Magditch won the 50-yard freestyle.

Wagner will compete twice next week. First up is a one-on-one meet against Monmouth.

SCSU’s Womens Swimming & Diving hosted a tri-meet between Wagner College and Central Connecticut State University. The Owls fell to CCSU 207.00 to 73.00 and Wagner 178.00 to 102.00.

1000 Yard Freestyle
Jasmine Uricchio took a second place finish in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 10:41.92

100 Yard Butterfly
Justice Glasgow had a time of 59.08 for the 100 yard butterfly earning a second place finish, followed by teammate Hailey Nyquist finishing third with a time of 59.74.

100 Yard Backstroke
Hailey Nyquist got the Owls in the top 5 with a third place finish holding a time of 58.41.

200 Yard Medley Relay:
Hailey NyquistEmma St. HilaireJustice Glasgow, and Molly Kennedy placed third with a time of 1:51.94 on the Medley Relay.

200 Yard Butterfly
Paola Castillo finished third for the Owls in the 200 Yard Fly with a time of 2:14.97.

200 Yard Freestyle
Arianna Arturi came in fifth for the 200 yard free with a time of 1:58.62 followed by Jamine Uricchio in sixth with a time of 2:00.98.

200 Yard Freestyle Relay
The Owls had third and fifth place finishes for the 200 Yard freestyle relay. Finishing third was Arianna ArturiElla MarzecPaola Castillo, and Brooke Keeney with a time of 1:43.72. Coming in at fifth was Jasmine UricchioAllyson Quitos, Zoe McNeil, and Sara Roney with a time of 1:46.71.

3 Meter Diving
Nicholle Deanult scored a 201.68 for 3 mtr diving.

1 Meter Diving
Nicholle Denault placed a score of 196.13 for 1 mtr diving.

The Owls next meet will be at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA on Friday, Nov.17 at 6PM.

SCSU Men’s swimming & diving hosted Wagner College for a dual meet at Hutchinson Natatorium. The Owls fell to the Seahawks 184.00 to 104.00.

1000 Yard Freestyle
Dylan Prescher and Samir Souidi both posted top 3 finishes in the 1000 yard free. Preacher took 2nd place with a time of 10:04.96 with Souidi taking third place with a time of 10:14.37.

200 Yard Freestyle
Jack Fry placed second in the 200 yard free with a time of 1:47.38. Franklin Kuhn followed with a third place finishing with a time of 1:48.11.

100 Yard Backstroke
Three Owls finished top five in the 100 yard backstroke. Adam Fred finished with a time of 54.13 giving him second place. Followed by Drew Ladner finishing fourth (56.72) and Collin Doyle finishing fifth (57.66).

100 Yard Breaststroke
Kobe Dominguez finished with second place in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 59.95. Travis Scott also joined Dominguez with a top five finish coming in fifth place (1:03.83).

200 Yard Butterfly
Lucas Quiroga held a time of 2:01:00 , placing second in the 200 Yard Fly. Michael Aiello placed fourth (2:02.20) along with Jacob Tanner who placed fifth (2:03.73).

100 Yard Freestyle
Drew Ladner finished with a time of 48.11 earning himself a second place finish. Franklin Kuhn also cracked the top five finishing fourth with a time of 48.29.

Yard Backstroke
Kobe Dominguez placed second with a final time of 2:20.89. Travis Scott found himself a third place finish (2:23.71) while Connor Skarzynski finished in fourth place (2:23.96).

500 Yard Freestyle
Dylan Prescher had a time of 4:54.10 finishing second in the 500 yard free.

400 Yard IM
J.D. Starkey finished second in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:28.21. Zach Krantz placed fourth (4:39.61), followed by teammate Lucas Quiroga placing fifth (4:44.46).

50 Yard Freestyle
Owls posted two top five finished in the 50 yard freestyle with Jack Fry coming in third, holding a time of 22.47. Franklin Kuhn finished fourth with a time of 22.69.

3 Meter Diving
Jayson Main scored a 190.43 for the Owls while teammate Jonathan Tressel finished with a score of 189.83.

1 Meter Diving
Jayson Main finished first in the 1 Mtr diving with a score of 186.85 followed up by Jonathan Tressel with a score of 163.65.

The Owls next meet will be at Worscester Polytechnic Institute in Worsester, MA on Friday, Nov.17 at 6PM.
