In a Saturday afternoon Time Trial at the Ohio Senior Championships, a quartet from Central Ohio Aquatics broke the 15-16 boys’ National Age Group Record in the 200 yard free relay.
Austin Carpenter, Jake Lloyd, Alex Wu, and Brad King combined for a 1:21.75. That broke the old record of 1:22.10 that was set in 2021 by a team from Rose Bowl Aquatics that included big names like Ronald Dalmacio and Rex Maurer.
That group of Rose Bowl swimmers broke all three 15-16 records in free relays in 2021.

The big split for COA was Alex Wu on the 3rd leg. His flat-start best, from December, is 21.72, and he split 1.08 seconds better than that on this relay. The anchor King also undercut his pre-meet flat-start best by .75 seconds – though he has swum a best time this weekend, going 21.19.
Last weekend, Carpenter was the Ohio High School Division I State Champion in the 100 breaststroke and Lloyd won the 50 free.

Not a fan of calm water / TT records
We (austin carpenter, jake lloyd, brad king) went a 1:21.5 at ohio high school state championships in the A final with the same exact line up, but it did not count because alex wu did not swim and instead andrew zarick did, who does not compete for coa, but will join in the summer. You may not be a fan, but we would destroy it either way. Jake and I both added .2 and brad added .3 and we still got it.
As i can understand your dislike of time trial records, would that not mean we would be way faster in a actual event. No need to hate on our record if we broke it with no competitors. If you swam the record in a time trial you would understand how hard it is, but I dont think you have. In conclusion, our time trial record should be respected not disliked and like austin said we all added on our splits and still broke it.
You don’t have to be a fan of it but it’s still a record.
🤷♂️
It’s great to see Jake, Austin and Alex back competing together again!
Proud of how far Alex and Austin have come these last few years. Keep up the good work boys!
