Jessica Hardy wins third event at Charlotte Grand Prix

Jessica Hardy won her third event of the meet taking the women’s 50 freestyle in a time of 25.09. Hardy won both the 50 and 100 breaststroke in last night’s finals session. She was followed by both Madison Kennedy and Megan Romano who tied for second in a time of 25.12.

In the men’s 200 butterfly Bolles’ Joseph Schooling took his second event of the weekend in a time of 1:57.79. Last night Schooling broke the Singapore national record in the 100 butterfly in a time of 52.33 and in tonight’s final he was off his 200 butterfly record of 1:56.67, which he set in 2011.

He was followed by Tom Luchsinger who finished second in a time of 1:58.80 with Dan Madwed finishing third in a time of 1:59.60.

Andreina Pinto of Venezuela took the women’s 200 butterfly in a time of 2:12.40 just ahead of Meredith Hoover who posted a time of 2:12.57. Lauren Harrington finished third posting a time of 2:13.28.

Anthony Ervin took the 50 freestyle in a time of 22.01

In the men’s 50 freestyle Cullen Jones had the best start in the race, by far, but it was Anthony Ervin who had the best finish winning the event in a time of 22.01. Marcelo Chierighini finished second recording a time of 22.09, only eight one hundredths of a second behind Ervin.

Jones finished third in a time of 22.16.

The women’s 100 backstroke saw Megan Romano win the event in a time of 1:00.83 which, was her second podium finish of the evening. Romano lead at the 50 turning in a time of 29.65, Kathleen Baker put on a push in the final 50 meters just falling short of the win finishing in a time of 1:00.98.

Isabella Arcila finished third in a time 1:01.59.

Ryan Murphy had the lead at the 50 meter mark turning in a time of 26.24, David Plummer and Andrew teDuits both caught Murphy in what was an incredible finish, with only six one-hundredths of a second separating the three men. teDuits took the event in a time of 54.43, Plummer finished second in a time of 54.45 with Murphy finishing in third posting a time of 54.49.

Chloe Sutton took the women’s 400 freestyle in a time of 4:09.10, but like most races this evening it was not an easy win with 17 year old Gillian Ryan closing fast in the final 50 meters. Ryan finished second in a time of 4:09.70 followed by Leah Smith who finished third recording a time of 4:10.85.

Connor Jaeger picked up his second win of the meet taking the men’s 400 freestyle easily in a time of 3:48.77. Jaeger picked up his first win in the 800 freestyle on Thursday evening. Michael McBroom finished second in a time of 3:50.77 with Matt McLean finishing third posting a time of 3:51.57.

Charlie Houchin who won the B final had the second fastest time of the evening recording a time of 3:50.64.

In an incredible finish Annie Zhu took the women’s 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:27.16 one one-hundredth of a second ahead of NCAA champion Laura Sogar. Sogar finished second in a time of 2:27.27 with Molly Hannis finishing third in a time of 2:30.72.

Mike Alexandrov took the men’s 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:13.60. He was followed by Colombian Jorge Murillo who finished second in a time of 2:14.44 just missing his Colombian national record time of 2:14.37.

NBAC’s Chase Kalisz finished third in a time of 2:14.51.

Dana Vollmer took the women’s 50 butterfly in the only swim of the evening that ranks within the world’s top ten, posting a time of 26.18, which ties her for seventh in the world with Marieke Guehrer.

Claire Donahue finished second in a time of 26.77 followed by Kelsi Worrell who finished third touching in a time of 26.94.

Brazilian Marcelo Chierighini took the men’s 50 butterfly in a time of 23.72 followed by Cullen Jones who finished second in a time of 24.03 with Eugene Godsoe rounding out the top three posting a time of 24.17.

Nobody mentioned here the performance on 100 back of Andrew teDuits . he is maybe also one of the surprises in the making towards Us trials on 100 back . A guy to follow closely in the months to come ….

I agree that the 200 meter breaststroke was a great race last night. Overall a lot of fast times at the swim meet.

Again, overall slow times but still little interesting things.
1. Megan Romano and her new PB in the 50 free. Very very very good for a mid-season meet. Please, become a full time freestyle specialist! Forget backstroke! No chance to shine in USA on backstroke in the next years with Missy and the others. At the opposite, the door is wide open in the 50 free and in the 100 free.
2. Anthony Ervin and his usual bad start. But as usual he’s the fastest over the water.
3. Caeleb Dressel, only 16, and his new PB of 23.37 in the 50 free C-Final. A sub 23 is definitely possible next summer. He’s the young American sprinter… Read more »

I Know some swimmers tend to explode later.. but Caelber needs to step up because his time as a 16 year old is not so amazing compared to some others we have seen lately..

Did anyone notice how big cullen jones pecs are? they are much bigger than athony ervins pecs so i dont know how anthony ervin won the 50 free???????
