Phelps 2008 200 IM = 2012 200 IM. In 2007 400 IM came at the end of his program where as in 2008 it came first. Lazers did’nt help his IM that much. Plus in 2008 is where he trained the hardest, 7 days a week.

I know it’s off topic, but I’m really annoyed with this “video not available in your country” by Universal, esp when I try to watch USA Trials, Nationals or Grand Prix meets. There isn’t any violation of broadcasting rights, so why denying people outside USA who are willing to stay till 3am and watch some world class swimming?
Back to Kalisz, I really love how this kid is so calm, poised and very eloquent. As for 400IM, to me, there is Phelps level of swimming 400IM, then one level lower is Lochte level, and then there is a huge gap. I’m not sure if Kalisz will ever be able to rise to Phelps or Lochte level, but if he… Read more »

Totally agree with you about Chase Kalisz.
He will be the guy to beat in the next years.
He isn’t very powerful for the moment and can improve a lot his strength, his turns and underwaters.
Of course he must improve his butterfly and his backstroke.
He has Agnel and Dwyer around him at NBAC.
And he has Michael as mentor.
Kalisz vs Hagino will be great to watch.

It depends on what’s in that video? If there is a footage of the race, then Universal is not allowed to show it abroad, but if there is only an interview with Chase Kalisz, then there is no contractual restrictions and Universal is just lazy as they don’t bother to open interviews for everyone.

At least Swedish television carried it out this way. You can see all the interviews but you must be within the borders of Sweden in order to see a footage of the races. Just an example (Katie Ledecky):

I would put Phelps and Lochte at the same level for the 400IM. In fact, Lochte’s 4:05.1 in London broke Phelps textile WR of 4:06 from pre-2008, and is arguably a better, or at the least, equivalent, swim than Phelps 4:03.8 LZR swim from 2008. Bowman and other coaches at NBAC really improved Phelps breastroke, so there’s a good chance they could help Kalisz with his fly and back to get him to Phelps/Lochte level. Only difference is that Kalisz will be bouncing back and forth between UGA and NBAC for the next few years, whereas Phelps stayed with Bowman the whole time. Kalisz may want to at least red-shirt his senior year to prepare better for Rio in 2016.

Except 2012, Michael has always beaten Ryan in the 400 IM in the big meets.

Ouch! I didn’t think of that. I wonder if the UGA/NBAC thing will be a good or bad thing for his career?

Why all these videos from universal sports network don’t work for me? Because I’m outside of USA?

Hey guys, I cannot get any of the video interviews you post from universal? Is it not available outside USA ? If that is the case, very frustrating for the int fans! What happened to gmm from US nationals?
