PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – Chatham Athletics has announced that Rebecca Yost will take over as the head women’s and men’s swimming and diving coach.
“Chatham University has a tremendous history of both academic and athletic excellence, and provides student-athletes with a one of a kind experience,” Yost said. “I would like to thank both Leonard Trevino and the Chatham community for giving me this exceptional opportunity and welcoming me into the Cougar family. I see an infinite amount of potential in the women’s and men’s swimming and diving programs and I am extremely excited to work with a strong group of dedicated student-athletes to grow the programs and lead them to the next level. I look forward to working together to build a PAC Championship contending team, and adding to Chatham’s strong tradition of excellence.”
Yost comes to Chatham after her third year as an assistant with the Frostburg State University men’s and women’s swimming teams.
Last season, Yost helped the Bobcat women’s team to program record 12 wins, while the men won a program record 10 meets. The women’s team moved from 6th to 3rd at the CAC Championships and the men’s team moved up to 5th. Both teams set program records for points scored at the championships and established over 30 varsity during the 2017-18 season.
Christian March and Macey Nitchie were both crowned as the CAC Male and Female Swimmers of the Year for the second consecutive year and Yost helped March become the first Frostburg swimmer to compete at the NCAA championships in over 25 years.
In her second year in 2016-17, Yost helped both Bobcat teams to their highest point total in CAC history and to their first victory over a CAC rival. The team’s combined for 31 total records, and March and Nitchie became the first swimmers in Frostburg history to earn First Team All-CAC honors while also being named CAC Male and Female Swimmers of the Year. Yost also helped a program record 12 athletes qualify for the ECAC Championships.
In her first year in 2015-16, Yost helped both Bobcat teams to the most successful seasons in program history. Both the men’s and women’s teams earned the most points in program history at the CAC Championships and qualified seven athletes for the ECAC Championships. Yost also helped the program earn its first ever CAC Second Team honoree and guided both teams to a combined 10 school records.
Yost came to Frostburg after graduating from Virginia Tech in May 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in business management and entrepreneurship and a minor in communications. While attending Virginia Tech she was an eight-time Dean’s List student, and graduated Manga Cum Laude.
In high school, Yost was a 4-year Virginia All-State Swimmer and the Chantilly High School 100 breaststroke record holder. In her senior year, she was captain of her high school swim team, and placed seventh in the state in the 100 breaststroke. Yost also swam for her club team Machine Aquatics, where she was a member of their 2011 Junior National Team.
Over the past several years, Yost has served as the Head Coach of the Fox Mill Foxes, and the Operations Intern at Virginia Amateur Sports.
