Chen Yiwen Wins Women’s 3m Springboard, China Now One Gold Away From Diving Sweep

China is only one event away from winning all eight diving events at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Chen Yiwen won the country’s 7th diving gold medal of the Games, winning the women’s 3 meter springboard event.

Chen dove to a final score of 376.00. She led the entire way after scoring a 70.50 in round 1. She scored in the 70s in all six rounds with her highest score of a 77.50 coming in round 4.

This marked Chen’s 2nd gold medal of the week as she also won gold alongside her partner Chang Yani in the women’s 3 meter synchro event. Chang won bronze today with a final score of 318.75. She climbed back up the rankings after a first round score of a 42.00 which placed her in 12th to start off the day. Her 4th round score of a 75.00 moved her into 3rd.

Australia’s Maddison Keeney won silver with a final score of a 343.10. She was 2nd the whole competition and had her highest scoring dive of a 78.20 in the final round. Keeney earned Australia their first medal in diving in Paris. She won bronze in the 3 meter synchro event in 2016.

China will look for the diving gold medal sweep tomorrow in the men’s 10 meter platform event. They came up one event short in Tokyo, winning 7 out of 8 golds. Cao Yuan won gold in Tokyo in the men’s 10 meter platform and had the highest score in today’s prelims session.

Wow, I didn’t realize how utterly dominant they are. The only sport we would see that kinda success would be football.
