Cherantha De Silva Makes History For Sri Lanka In Singapore

Cherantha De Silva took part in the recently held (1st – 2nd DEC) “Singapore Open Nationals – Short course meters”. De Silva managed to break five national records in the five events he participated along with two meet records where one of the records was previously clocked by Singapore Olympian Quah Wen Zeng.

This year, De Silva also participated in the 2017 World Aquatics Championships, where he posted at 25.15 time in the men’s 50m butterfly and 55.09 men’s 100m butterfly.

Following are the breakdown of his performance

50m Butterfly – 23.48 (New meet record. New Sri Lankan record previously held by Matthew Abeysinghe)
100m Butterfly – 52. 29 ( New Sri Lankan record previously held by Matthew Abeysinghe
200m Butterfly – 1.57.99 (New Sri Lankan record)
50m Freestyle – 22.55 (New meet record and New Sri Lankan record)
100m Freestyle – 49.29 (New Sri Lankan record)
