Chris Guiliano, Top Remaining Sprinter in Class of 2021, Commits to Notre Dame

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Rising high school senior Chris Guiliano has verbally committed to the University of Notre Dame. Guiliano, one of the top remaining uncommitted seniors in the class of 2021, won a Pennsylvania AAA High School State Championship in the 200 yard free in March before the last half of the meet was ultimately cancelled.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 50 free – 20.27
  • 100 free – 44.29
  • 200 free – 1:35.81
  • 100 back – 50.72
  • 200 back – 1:56.58
  • 100 breast – 59.45
  • 100 fly – 51.40
  • 200 IM – 1:50.24

Between the Winter Junior Championships – East meet in December 2019 and the PIAA Championships in March, Guiliano dropped almost 4 seconds from his best time in his 200 free (1:39.70 to 1:35.81). His best time in the 100 free was done at those same Winter Junior Championships, where he swam 44.29, though he didn’t get a chance to swim that race in finals to see what drops were in store there. His time was 44.55 in prelims.

This addition is a big one for Notre Dame, which is in need of good news after their top swimmer Zach Yeadon entered the NCAA transfer portal last month.

Guiliano’s best time in the 100 free would have ranked 4th on Notre Dame’s roster last season, his 50 free would have ranked 2nd, and his 200 free would have ranked 3rd. Notre Dame finished 10th out of 11 teams in the 200 free relay, 9th out of 11 teams in the 400 free relay, and 6th out of 11 teams in the 800 free relay last season en route to a 6th-place overall team finish, so the sprint events are an area where the Irish could use some help.

Guiliano is the top recruit in the class of 2021 for Notre Dame so far. That’s a class that includes Max Myers (20.9/45.5 freestyler) and Owen Grimaldi (1:38/4:29 freestyler). They’ve also picked up some immediate relay help in the class of 2020, with the likes of Luke Uttley (20.4/44.3/1:37.2), Liam Smith (45.2/1:35.9), Stephan Lukashev (20.2/45.5), and Connor Hinkes (20.2/45.8) in a sprint-heavy class.

Guiliano trains with TOPS Swimming and Daniel Boone High School outside of Reading, Pennsylvania.

Top remaining sprinter is misleading, he had the top remaining 200 free but there are 3 faster 50s out there.
