While competing on day 1 of the 2019 Dutch Short Course Championships in Tilburg, visiting swimmer Henrik Christiansen busted out the fastest time ever for a Norwegian in the men’s 800m freestyle.
The 23-year-old World Championships silver medalist crushed an 800 free split of 7:29.39 to open his 1500m free, which he wound up winning in 15:20.08. Christiansen’s impressive opener last night overtook his own national record-setting mark of 7:33.28 that he put on the books just this past November at the Norwegian Short Course Championships.
Putting Christiansen’s swim into perspective historically, the Olympian’s 7:29.39 now checks-in as the 3rd fastest short course 800m freestyle of all-time. Only Aussie legend Grant Hackett and French Olympic champion Yannick Agnel have been faster, and also represent the only other swimmers to notch at least one time under 7:30.
