CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati swim and dive programs beat their crosstown rivals Xavier on Friday afternoon. The men won with a score of 211-83 and the women completed the sweep with a 191-100.
Xavier University does not have a diving squad and the Bearcats divers competed amongst themselves.
The Bearcats honored their nine graduating seniors with a ceremony in-between the two events.
TOP FINISHES:
- The Bearcats claimed the top four spots in the men’s 200-yard freestyle relay with sophomore Hunter Gubeno, sophomore Bennett Vail, sophomore Ricky Williams and sophomore Thomas Matthew scoring in the top spots, respectively.
- The Bearcats repeated the trick, this time in the women’s 200-yard breaststroke, with freshman Annabelle Young, sophomore Logan Lawhorn, graduate student Victoria Hunt and freshman Kaylee Nagel rounding out the top four.
- Sophomore Calvin Coetzee, junior Kevin Leibold, senior Riley Dafoe and Vail rounded out another top-four sweep in the 500-yard freestyle.
- Senior Sydney St. Rose-Finear won the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:28.69 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:03.75.
- Sophomore Jessica Davis won three events starting with the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle.
- Dominic Polling won the 100-yard breaststroke with a 56.18 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:03.90.
- Junior Katherine Connolly got her season-best time in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:04.19 and would also claim top spot in the 100-yard butterfly with another season-best time of 57.38.
- Junior Michael Balcerak won the 50-yard freestyle with a 20.96 and the 100-yard freestyle with a 45.65
NOTABLE FINISHERS
- Sophomore Erin Shema picked up the victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.25.
- Senior Blake Hanna and freshman Quinn Cynor finished with times of 49.32 and 51.80 to take the top two spots in the 100-yard backstroke.
- Lawhorn grabbed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:05.69.
- Sophomore Tommy Eaton won the 200-yard butterfly with a 1:50.66.
- Hanna would win the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:46.81 and finished ahead of teammate Gubeno who clocked a 1:50.34.
- Junior Mohamed Abdelbaky and Tommy Eaton claimed the top two spots in the 100-yard butterfly with 50.39 and 50.44, respectively.
- Senior Camryn Streid and Annabelle Young took first and second in the 400-yard IM with times of 4:28.28 and 4:28.50.
- Junior Spencer Sehlhorst won the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:58.72.
- Guebno, Polling, Hanna and Balcerak won the final event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:23.51.

The Bearcats travel to the Bluegrass state for a meet at Kentucky on Friday, January 28th, and for a meet at Louisville on January 29th.

CINCINNATI – Men’s and women’s swimming opened up the spring semester on Friday, traveling across town to face the Cincinnati Bearcats at the Keating Aquatic Center. The Musketeers collected four first place finishes in the first of two meets this weekend, and now return home to host Bellarmine on Saturday.
Women’s Highlights
- Kali Fischer, Lydia Schaeffer, Hannah Pugh and Alexis Worrall led off the meet with a time of 1:45.98 in the 200 medley relay, to take first.
- Kali Fischer picked up another first place finish in the 200 back, finishing in 2:03.29. Fischer also set a personal best time of 24.10 in the 50 free, finishing second.
- Tilly Baldwin led Xavier in the 1000 free with a time of 10:49.50 to place third.
- Clara Keiser‘s time of 1:53.32 in the 200 free to place second. She also placed third in the 500 free with a time of 5:14.74.
- Brooke Atkins placed second with a time of 57.86 in the 100 back.
- Kate Lair led Xavier in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.88, finishing second. Lair also led Xavier in the 400 IM with a time of 4:34.40.
- Sophia Romero‘s time of 2:08.48 in the 200 fly placed third.
- Alexis Worrall led Xavier in the 100 free with a time of 52.97, placing third.
- Emily Guerrera set tho top time by a Musketeer in the 200 breast at 2:28.28
- Hannah Pugh and Sophia Romero tied for second in the 100 fly with a time of 57.74.
- Xavier’s women closed out the meet with another relay win, with Molly Dynda, Clare Bosse, Alexis Worrall and Kali Fischer finishing the 200 free relay in 1:35.70.
- Xavier’s women fell by a score of 191-100.

Men’s Highlights
- Ben Quon, Jon Bernard, Caleb Petranchuk and Gage Hannewyk placed second in the 200 medley with a time of 1:33.70 to lead off the meet.
- Andrew Martin won 1000 free with a time of 9:28.03. Martin also led Xavier in the 100 free, placing second with a time of 46.21.
- Jon Bernard placed third in the 200 back with a time of 1:53.53. Bernard also led Xavier in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.31.
- Christian Thomas placed third in the 100 back with a time of 52.32.
- Will Serad finished in second in the 100 breast with a time of 59.34.
- Jack Parker led Xavier with a second place finish in the 200 fly, finishing in 1:55.30.
- Ethan Saunders‘ second place finish in the 50 free led the way for Xavier, setting a time of 21.49.
- Nathan Wall’s time of 2:06.08 placed second in the 200 breast. Wall picked up another second place finish in the 400 IM, finishing in a time of 4:07.37.
- Adam Lamping led Xavier in the 500 free with a time of 4:46.23
- Caleb Petranchuk led the Musketeers with a third place finish in the 100 fly, setting a time of 51.76
- Ethan Saunders, Gage Hannewyk, Christian Thomas and Andrew Martin led Xavier in the 200 free relay, setting a time of 1:23.61 to finish second.
- Xavier’s men fell by a score of 211-83.
