12 year old Claire Curzan of Raleigh Swimming Association broke the National Age Group Record in the 11-12 50 LCM butterfly today at Star Aquatics Long Days of Summer Quad Meet. The meet took place at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Curzan broke the old record of 28.07 by .16 clocking a speedy 27.91 to win the event. Ella Marlow held the prior record and set it in 2015. In addition to this new record, Claire Curzan is the NAG record holder in the 50 and 100 short course yards butterfly events. She broke both records in the same swim when she swam the 100 butterfly in February. Those records stood at 24.66 for the 50 split and NAG and 54.38 as the 100 NAG record. Curzan swam a 54.00 in March to lower her national record in the 100. She also set a new 50 fly record at 24.39.
Curzan won the 12& under mixed 50 butterfly event to go along with three other event wins this weekend in the 50, 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly.
Curzan was also just about a second over the 50m backstroke National Age Group Record. In the 100 backstroke, she won in 1:07.94. Her best time in the 100 butterfly is 1:03.37, which ranks her 5th all time.
