Fast-rising Claire Curzan has left her mark on the 11-12 National Age Group Record books. In tonight’s 100 butterfly C-final at the 2016 U.S. Winter Junior Championships (East), Curzan posted a 54.57 to take down the former NAG Record of 54.73 set by Regan Smith in 2014. Smith, who is now 14 years old, made headlines earlier today when she took down the 13-14 NAG Record in the 100 fly.
Raleigh Swimming’s Curzan took the race out in a quick 25.14, following that up with a 29.59 on the back half. Her final time was a personal best by about a half second, beating the 55.12 she swam in prelims. Overall, she finished 18th place, finishing 2nd in her C-final heat. She was the only swimmer in the 11-12 age group to have gotten a 2nd swim at this meet so far.
Curzan is now ranked in the top 10 all time for 11-12 girls in both events she’s competed in this weekend. Earlier in the meet, she clocked a 23.84 to tie as the 9th fastest performer.

Mimi & Papa are so proud of you!! Love you, Claire !!
Claire Curzan is a great friend of mine. I am so proud of her accomplishments. We carpooled to practice together everyday last year. I am super amazed that she is the fasted 11-12 100 flyer in the country. I always new she would be an amazing swimmer, and I great hopes that she will go to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Love you Claire.
U go girl
That is fantastic! We are so proud of you!
Congrats to Claire Curzan. When you see how Regan Smith has developed since then, that’s very promising.
Impressive record.
