Boulder Creek High School junior Claire Grover was all business when she jumped into the pool at the Skyline Aquatic Center for the 2016 Arizona Division 1 State Championships. Grover had more than just a state championship title in mind, swimming to a new Arizona State Record on the way to gold in the 50 free.
Grover hit the wall with a winning time of 22.92, clipping .01 off the previous record of 22.93 set by Aleesha Miller in 2006. Her time was also a new Pool Record, as she finished 4 hundredths under the 22.96 done by Amy Bilquist in that pool in 2012.
In addition to her 50 free victory, Grover was also the state champ in the 100 breast. In that race, she turned in a quick 1:01.59 for a dominant win, finishing 3 seconds ahead of the field.
Grover was given anchor leg duties on Boulder High School’s 200 free relay and 400 free relay as well. In the 200 free relay, she anchored in a 22.68 to help her team earn a bronze medal. They won the B-final of the 400 free relay, with Grover anchoring in 50.13.
Congrats Claire, Your future looks very bright.
