Claire Tuggle Breaks Elizabeth Beisel’s National Age Group Record in 200 Meter Free

All National Age Group Records are impressive, but some come with an extra level of glamour based on the successes their holders have had after taking them out, and among the most storied marks still on the books are the four 10 & under long course records held by 2012 Olympic silver medalist Elizabeth Beisel.

Her count will be down to three after ratification is complete, thanks to Claire Tuggle of the Yosemite Marlins, who swam a 2:16.30 in the 200 meter free this weekend at the Mike Snyder Memorial Meet in Fresno, California.

That broke the 2:16.37 that Beisel swam back in 2003, and broke Tuggle’s own personal best of 2:18.97 done in July of last year, just after her 10th birthday.

In April, Tuggle broke the 200 yard and 500 yard freestyle National Age Group Records, which now gives her three total.

Beisel still holds the 400 free (4:42.40), 100 back (1:09.96), and 200 IM (2:31.26) National Age Group Records in long course for 10 & unders, and six in total across every age group aside from 13-14’s.

Tuggles other results from the weekend’s meet, which was her second long course event of the year:

  • 50 free – 29.52
  • 100 free – 1:03.44
  • 400 free – 4:48.63
  • 50 back – 35.87
  • 50 breast – 41.14
  • 100 breast – 1:26.11
  • 50 fly – 32.80
  • 400 IM – 5:37.10

As a former swimmer who was born and raised in central CA, always love to hear about successful swimmers coming up in the region. We usually are well overshadowed by our Southern CA neighbors…

Keep up the strong work Claire! Way to represent your club and community!

Wow! Wow! Wow!
Not surprising she breaks it after what she did in short course but so early in the long course season, very impressive.
Is Claire Tuggle the next American golden girl after Missy Franklin and Katie Ledecky in the last 5 years? Too early to tell. I still need to watch her in video before having an opinion.
Please some race videos of her freestyle. Thanks.

She manages to make it look calm and effortless. Pretty remarkable.
