Clarion Hosts Diving Invite, Wins Three of Four Events

CLARION, Pa. – The Golden Eagle men’s and women’s divers hosted their Diving Invitational on Friday night, with Clarion athletes winning three of the four events contested on the night. Clarion will be back in action in another diving-only event on Saturday, when the Golden Eagles head to Westminster for the Rich Setner Invitational.

Alexa Gonczi had a standout day, winning both the 1M and 3M Dives against loaded fields. Gonczi won the 3M Dive with a score of 243.05, and also took home the top spot in the 1M Dive with a score of 223.05. Anna Vogt  was the second-place finisher in both events, scoring 238.25 in the 3M and 217.60 in the 1M. Addie Restelli and Liz Brand went 3-4 in both events as well, as the Golden Eagles owned the top four spots in all of the women’s diving events.

In the men’s 3M Dive, Zach Schering hit an NCAA cut in the 3M Dive, leading the field with a 296.35. The freshman also took second in the 1M Dive, scoring a 263.60. Jordan Morrett took second in the 3M Dive with a score of 263.70, while Andrew Cestra finished second on the team and third overall in the 1M Dive with a score of 237.05.

CLARION, Pa. – Members of the Westminster men’s and women’s diving teams competed in the Clarion Diving Invitational Friday night.

“The divers did a great job showing the work they have been putting in,” assistant and diving coach Collin Vest said. “We’re looking forward to being home tomorrow with more great competition. We are excited to see all of the work the divers put in during PACs and having their entries on point with their takeoffs.”

Senior Gayner Rossi (Trenton, MI / Trenton) scored a 168.15 in the three-meter dive and a 157 in the one-meter dive.

Senior Patrick Holton (Livonia, MI / Winston Churchill) earned a first-place finish in the one-meter dive with a score of 263.90. In the three-meter dive, Holton tallied a 237.40 for third. Junior Jake Trzcinski (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) posted a 153.75 in the one meter and a 139.80 in the three. Senior Austin Shaw (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland) earned a 189.00 in the three meter, while sophomore Sean Perrone (Avondale, PA / Kennett) registered a 89.95.

The Titans’ next event is scheduled for Saturday, February 5 as they host the Rich Sentner Dive Invite. Start time is set for 12 p.m.

Gannon senior Joe Campbell (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and sophomore Kollin Schwab (Erie, Pa./McDowell) will compete for the final time of the 2021-22 season on Friday evening at Clarion.

During his last outing, Campbell competed in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving at the Cleveland State tri-meet back on Jan. 22. The senior finished third in 1-meter diving with a score of 216.50, while placing sixth in 3-meter diving with a score of 161.50. His top performance of the season was at Youngstown State back on Oct. 23, when Campbell came in third in both events.

Schwab has competed three times this season for the Knights, with his top finish of the year coming at RIT back in November. At RIT, he placed third in 1-meter diving and fourth in 3-meter diving. Schwab also came in fifth at the Magnus Cup (Nov. 18-20).

CLARION, Pa. — The Washington & Jefferson College women’s diving team competed at the Clarion University Diving Invitational on Friday evening.

Alexis Griner (Valrico, Fla. / Bloomingdale) led W&J in the one-meter with a score of 137.35.

W&J returns to competition at the PAC Championships, which will be held at Grove City College’s James E. Longnecker Competition Pool on Feb. 10-12.
