Louisville’s St. Xavier high school hosted their 2015 Alumni Hall of Honors Induction last night where they inducted eight new members. 2012 Olympian Clark Burckle was among the inductees last night.
Burckle finished second at the 2012 Olympic Trials in the 200 breaststroke and went on to finish sixth at the London Olympic Games. Burckle was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in 2006 and was a member of St. Xavier Tigers Sharks high school swim team.
After graduating from St. Xavier, he went on to swim at Florida for three years and then transferred to Arizona for his final season. He was the 2010 NCAA Champion in the 200 breaststroke and helped lead the Wildcats to a national title.
Jimmy Tierney was also honored at the ceremony last night. He was originally inducted in 2012. Tierney coached at Northwestern University for 27 years. He left the program with a career 126-94-1 dual meet record and 7 top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships (including six-straight from 1995-2000). His athletes also earned 146 All-America honors. He recently was hired as the head coach of the new division II program, McKendree University.
Outside of the college scene, Tierney has served several terms on the ASCA board and has been named to the coaching staff of multiple international US teams.
