Class of 2022 #2 Recruit Josh Zuchowski Verbals to Stanford’s Class of 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Flood Aquatics Swim Team’s Josh Zuchowski has announced his commitment to Stanford’s class of 2026. Zuchowski was one of two huge Commitments to the Stanford men’s team today, along with Sarasota Sharks’ Liam Custer. The pair of commitments to Stanford is massive for the program, as Zuchowski and Custer are SwimSwam’s #2 and #3 recruits in the class of 2022 respectively.

Our #2 recruit in his high school class, Zuchowski is a versatile talent, who would have qualified for the 2021 NCAAs in the 200 back. Zuchowski could make an immediate impact for the Cardinal in backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and IM events. Here is a summary of his best times:

  • 100 back – 46.86
  • 200 back – 1:41.68
  • 100 breast – 55.81
  • 200 breast – 2:03.00
  • 100 fly – 48.10
  • 200 fly – 1:46.62
  • 200 IM – 1:46.66
  • 400 IM – 3:48.49

“Today is a day I have been dreaming of since I was seven years old and dove in the pool for my first race. I am overjoyed and honored to announce my commitment to swim and study at Stanford University. I would like to thank everyone who has helped me chase my dream including my teammates, coaches, friends, family and most of all God. I would like to give a special thank you to my dad who has stood next to me every step of the way and supported me in every way possible. I know I couldn’t have done this without you and I’ll continue trying my best to make you proud. I’m excited for the next 4 years of my life and to be part of the Stanford family! Below, you’ll find the top SCY times for the boys high school class of 2022. Notably, Zuchowski is the top backstroker in the class in both distances.

TOP TIMES IN THE CLASS OF 2022
50 Free Dawson Joyce 19.76
100 Free Dawson Joyce 43.59
200 Free Michael Cotter 1:34.35
500 Free Liam Custer 4:18.49

100 Back Josh Zuchowski 46.96
200 Back Josh Zuchowski 1:41.68
100 Breast Zhier Fan 53.36
200 Breast Baylor Nelson 1:56.01
100 Fly Landon Gentry 46.41
200 Fly Landon Gentry 1:43.03
200 IM Baylor Nelson 1:44.46
400 IM Baylor Nelson 3:45.67

**The 1000 free isn’t an event at the Division I NCAA Championships, but is swum instead of the 1650 in many Division I dual meets and is part of the NCAA program in Division II.

The addition of Zuchowski will be a boost to the Stanford backstroke squad. The Cardinal backstrokers were led by sophomores Shane Blinkman and Leon MacAlister last year, both of whom will be seniors during Zuchowski’s freshman year. Zuchowski’s 100 and 200 back times would have earned him spots in the Pac-12 A finals, and his 200 back time would have been good for a 2021 NCAA Championships invite. Stanford finished 2nd at the 2021 Pac-12 Champs, just shy of 200 points behind Cal.

I’ve followed this kid since he was 6&under. Sure, Stanford is a good school academically, but I’m not sold on their aquatic program. I guess Josh is cashing in his swim career for academics and a wealthy job. Smart move!

Absolutely! Stanford and Ivy are probably the only ones you cannot go without so many essay steps, good GPA, SAT scores and AP classes.
