INDIANAPOLIS – UIC’s Felix LaFortune and Cydney Liebenberg each earned their third consecutive Nike #HLSD Diver of the Week awards for the Flames. Cleveland State’s Jack Krusinski and Oakland’s Susan LaGrand are this week’s Nike #HLSD Swimmers of the Week after competing in duals last weekend.
2020 Nike® Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Jack Krusinski | Cleveland State | Sophomore | Brecksville, Ohio
Krusinski won events in both of the Vikings’ duals this past weekend as they traveled to Big Ten foe Michigan State and defending HL champion Oakland. He began the weekend by winning the 200 breaststroke at Michigan State while also placing as the runner-up in the 100 breast. Krusinski won the 200 breaststroke for a second straight day in the dual against the Golden Grizzlies, finishing in first place by over four seconds, while also adding two more individual runner-up finishes. Krusinski continues to have the top time in the Horizon League this season.
2020 Nike® Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Susan LaGrand | Oakland | Sophomore | Grand Rapids, Mich.
Oakland’s Susan LaGrand helped guide the Golden Grizzlies to two wins over IUPUI and Cleveland State over the weekend by tallying six top three finishes, including four first place finishes. LaGrand started the weekend with three first place individual finishes in the 100 back (53.75), 100 IM (56.12), 200 free (1:49.84). The sophomore also recorded to a third place spot in the 200 medley relay (1:43.01). LaGrand continued her strong performance into Saturday by placing first in the 200 fly in 2:05.10, more than five seconds faster than the second place finisher. The Grand Rapids, Mich. native also placed second in the 200 medley relay (1:45.22). LaGrand’s finishes in the 100 back, 200 free and 200 fly, are all season-bests for the sophomore.
2020 Nike® Men’s Diver of the Week
Felix LaFortune | UIC | Junior | Gatineau, Canada
LaFortune continued his surge down the home stretch of the regular season by breaking the UIC school and pool record in 1-meter diving. His score of 350.05 eclipsed the previous mark by nearly 10 points. His sheet included career highs on five dives and three 9.0s. Later, he scored a career high 363.10 on the 3-meter board to record his fourth straight win in the event. He won both events in the same meet for the fourth time this year.
2020 Nike® Women’s Diver of the Week
Cydney Liebenberg | UIC | Junior | Pretoria, South Africa
Liebenberg upped her scores on both boards for the third straight meet. She took first in both events, posting 290.95 on the 1-meter board and 315.95 on the 3-meter board. It was the sixth straight meet in which she swept the diving crowns, and she remained undefeated this season in 3-meter diving.
