Cody Miller has been absolutely sensational in the breaststroke events at the 2015 Duel in the Pool, and tonight he managed to get his hands on the short course 100m breaststroke American record.

Miller once again stepped on the blocks to face 200m breaststroke world record holder Daniel Gyurta and for the second time this meet in an individual event he came out on top.

Flying to the front of the pack earlier on, Miller turned at the 50 wall with a fairly dominant lead over Gyurta. Pushing off, Miller split a 26.40 to Gyurta’s 26.81 and continued to extend his lead approaching the 75 meter mark.

With 25 meters to go Miller had a clear lead and really increased his stroke rate to push even further past Gyurta and win the race by a sizable amount.

Miller touched the wall in 56.43 to break Kevin Cordes’ American record time of 56.88 that he set at the 2013 Duel in the Pool in Glasgow, Scotland.

Miller’s Splits

  • 50m – 26.40
  • 100m – 56.43 (30.03)

The time for Miller also ranks him first in the world this season ahead of elite international breaststrokers such as Marco Koch of Germany and Adam Peaty of Britain. Both of them swam those times at the short course European Championships in Netanya, Israel.
