Las Vegas swimmer and Gold medal winner Cody Miller received ceremonial keys to the Las Vegas Strip after returning home from the Rio Olympic Games. The ceremony was held at Desert Breeze Aquatic Center where Miller was honored in front of his club team, the Sandpipers of Nevada.
Miller has overcome several obstacles to achieve his success in swimming and receive the ceremonial key. When he was fourteen, he was diagnosed with pectus excavatum, a condition where a rib deformity affects a person’s breathing. Miller’s hard work and dedication to the sport of swimming have evidently paid off as he came away from the 2016 Olympic Games more than successful.
At the Rio Games Miller set a new American record in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 58.87, bringing home a bronze medal. He later won a gold medal in the men’s 4×100 meter medley relay in which he swam the breaststroke leg. The relay team, also featuring Ryan Murphy, Nathan Adrian and Michael Phelps broke the Olympic record with a time of 3:27.95.
In addition to Miller, Maya DiRado was also presented ceremonial keys to her hometown of Santa Rosa by mayor John Sawyer. See full article here: https://staging.swimswam.com/dirado-awarded-key-city-santa-rosa/
Being the first person from his club team to qualify for the Olympics, Miller offered thanks to his teammates and coach and shared his thoughts about the Rio Games in front of many excited young fans, friends, and family members during the ceremony. “This whole thing has been amazing. It’s a testament to hard work and it can be any of the swimmers here.” (Las Vegas Sun, http://lasvegassun.com/news/2016/aug/30/las-vegas-swimmer-cody-miller-rio-honor-vegas/)
