American Cody Miller broke a 14-year-old American Record tonight in the men’s 50 breast semis, putting up a time of 26.15 to break Ed Moses‘ record of 26.28 from all the way back in 2002. He just missed the record this morning in 26.34. Miller’s swim put him 6th and advanced him to the final tomorrow night in what was a very fast field.
Kirill Prigoda of Russia led the semi-finals as the only man under 26 seconds in 25.95. It should be a very close final tomorrow, with the eight men separated by just 0.34.
This is Miller’s first SCM American Record. He is the holder of the long course 100 breast record at 58.87, set when he won bronze at the Olympics this past summer.
Miller finished 6th in the 100 breast earlier in the meet. He also won a silver medal on the men’s 4×50 medley relay earlier tonight, and won a gold after swimming on the prelims of the mixed 4×50 medley.
That’s not is first american scm record, he holds the american records in the 100m and 200m. He set them last year at the duel in the pool.
I wonder how many more fly kicks Miller had today than when Moses set the record.
