Coleman Allen broke his own CIS record in the 100m fly during prelims on day one, and on day two, he broke another record which doubled as a Canadian record en route to taking the top seed in the 50m fly.
The Canadian record in the event stood at 23.31, and Allen tied that this morning. Allen now shares the record with one of Joe Bartoch who is the Canadian record holder in the long course 100m fly. At trials, Allen will need to get close to that mark in order to secure a spot on the World Championship team this summer.
Allen swam a 23.31 to just narrowly better the CIS Championship mark set by Mike Smerek of Toronto back in 2012. Smerek was a 23.33 to set that record which Allen was able to break by just two one-hundredths.
That gives Allen his second record of the meet. On day one he was a 51.19 in the prelims of the 100m fly to break his own mark of 51.44 from last year’s CIS Championships.
In the long course finals Allen was able to run away with a big win, and it looks as though he’s going to be able to do the same tonight. In prelims, he was seven tenths faster than any other swimmer. Dillon Perron of Manitoba was second overall in 24.09, well behind Allen and his new CIS Championship record.
Allen will be swimming the 200m fly prelims later in the session, where he is also seeded first.
