Colgate Women, Marist Men Earn Dominant Wins In Dual Meet Split

HAMILTON – MG King won three events to lead Colgate to a 189-109 victory over Marist in head-to-head action Saturday afternoon at Lineberry Natatorium. 

The Raiders celebrated their final home meet of the semester by winning 14 events, led by three from King and two each from Audrey Collins, and Ellie SundinBrooke Garretson and Jordan Hurt secured one win apiece to go with a pair of relay triumphs on the day. 

Colgate with the win secured its first victory over Marist since the 2004-05 season. The Raiders have faced the Red Foxes four times since 2019-20, closing the gap each year since falling to the Red Foxes 190-92 four years ago. Last year, Colgate came up just short 157-143 before prevailing this year with Saturday’s dominant victory. 

“It was great to see both teams bring a lot of energy to the meet today,” said head coach Ed Pretre. “We did a much better job of keeping focused and executing our race strategies. It was a perfect meet before we suit up next week at the Brown invite.”

HOW IT HAPPENED

King started off the day with a 10:41.31 time in the 1000 yard free, good for first place on the leaderboard and four seconds faster than Marist’s second-place swimmer. King was also dominant in the shorter races, taking first in the 100-yard back (59.25) and 200-yard back (2:06.61).

Art found success in the 200-yard free, touching the wall in just under two minutes at 1:58.10, slightly over a half-second faster than her nearest counterpart. Art’s second victory came in the 50-yard free where she clocked in at 24.06 seconds. 

Collins paced the field in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:08.86, just ahead of teammate Meg Erickson who turned in a second-place time of 2:12.63. Collins picked up her second win in the 400-yard individual medley (4:32.85), seven seconds faster than Marist’s nearest swimmer.

Sundin’s two wins came on the diving board, pacing the field in the 1-meter dive and 3-meter with respective scores of 245.45 and 235.25. Nora Bergstrom captured a first-place finish in the 500 yard free with a time of 5:18.14, besting Marist’s nearest swimmer by three seconds.

Colgate’s 200-yard medley relay team kicked off the event with a victory led by the quartet of Garretson, Hurt, Regan Hau, and Lucy Art (1:47.17). Garretson, Art, Elizabeth Rainey, and Hurt paced the field in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:29.66.

HAMILTON – Matt Freund and JD Suarez earned victories in the Colgate men’s swimming and diving team’s head-to-head battle with Marist on Saturday afternoon at Lineberry Natatorium. The Red Foxes came away with the win, 210-78. 

Freund took the top spot in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:56.41, three seconds faster than his nearest competitor from Marist. 

Suarez secured first place in the 200-yard back, clocking in at 1:54.60, just under two seconds quicker than Marist’s second-place swimmer. Suarez also found success in the 200-yard free after turning in a third-place time of 1:46.01, less than one second off the leader.

Colgate’s 200-yard medley relay team of Jack Schurtz-Ford, Suarez, Ryan Jee, and Jack Lira earned a second-place time of 1:36.48, less than three seconds off Marist’s first-place quartet. The Raiders’ 200-yard free relay team of Jee, Schurtz-Ford, Andrew Hicks, and Lira also came away with a second-place finish with a time of 1:26.15.

Schurtz-Ford saw another second-place finish in the 100-yard back with a time of 52.11 seconds. Jee’s time of 1:00.05 in the 100-yard breast was good for second place.

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York– The Marist women’s swim and dive team fell to Colgate 180-118, Saturday afternoon in Hamilton, NY.  The Red Foxes moved to 2-2 overall.

  • Kevin McNamara placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:57.49).
  • Ethan McCormac placed first in two different swims.  McCormac finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (45.98) and in the 100-yard butterfly (50.57).
  • Adam Zaremba finished first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.30) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.26).
  • James Conable placed first in the 400-yard Individual Medley (4:09.61).
  • Ethan Gibbs won both the 1 meter and 3 meter dives (1 meter- 269.45; 3 meter- 263.55).
  • The Red Foxes relay team consisting of Jacob MacrinaCaden HardyKellen Fletcher, and Ethan McCormac placed first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:33.66).
  • Another relay team consisting of Adrian BankowskiEthan McCormac, Matthew McManus, and Lucas Silva finished first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.83).
