INDIANAPOLIS – After a lengthy layoff between competitions, the IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were back in the water on Friday night (Jan. 8) as the Jaguars hosted Ball State and Xavier in dual meet action inside the IUPUI Natatorium. The men’s squad swept both duals, beating Xavier 192-99 and Ball State 201-96 while the women’s team split the results, beating BSU 150.5-148.5 and falling to Xavier, 154-133.

“It was great to get back in to some competition, especially against two quality opponents,” IUPUI Head Coach Matt Bos said. “I could not be happier about where we are following a very productive stretch of training. The base we built earlier this season really has shown and we now are focused on fine tuning our racing.

“The men were solid from the start and really put together a great meet. The women really stepped up with the meet on the line and put in some great relays to steal one away from Ball State.”

The women’s squad bookended the meet with relay wins, opening with a victory in the 200 IM and closing with a win in the 400 free relay, helping nudge past Ball State. Both Madison Taylor and Tori Kroon were part of both relay wins with Taylor swimming the anchor of the IM and the opening 100 of the 400 free. Kroon anchored the 400 free relay and touched at 3:34.76 to beat Ball State’s effort by more than two seconds.

Alexis Bullard had a solid showing throughout the evening, finishing second in the 100 and 200 back and third in the 100 butterfly. She keyed the 200 medley relay win as well, giving the Jaguars an early lead in the backstroke.

The men put together a strong all around effort, collecting 11 race victories, including two relays, and taking the top three spots in both diving events.

Aaron Brysch and Lennart Kuester both swam well, helping open the night at the lead and anchor of the 200 IM relay win. Kuester touched at 1:33.77, easily outdistancing the group from Xavier to set the tone for the night.

Brysch would later win the 100 back and finish second in the 50 free while Kuester won both the 50 (20.92) and 100 free (46.79).
