Nation’s Capital Swim Club–one of the top club programs in the United States–put together a strong performance in the opening morning of the College Park Futures Championships, headlined by a 1-2-3 finish in the women’s 200 free to kick off the session. 15-year-old Sinead Eksteen touched in 2:03.96 (just off her personal best of 2:03.83), followed by 15-year-old Claire Nguyen (2:04.85) and 16-year-old Madeline Laporte (2:04.92). After a dominant 6+ second victory in the women’s 800 freestyle relay, it’s no surprise to see plenty of NCAP names on the leaderboard, but their depth deserves some extra praise; they put four 15-16 swimmers in the top 8, and four others who finished between 9th and 24th.
Other highlights from the morning session:
- 18-year-old Daniel Cook of Old Dominion Aquatic Club chopped more than three seconds off his seed time (1:57.19 to 1:53.93) to take the top seed in the men’s 200 free
- The top seed in the women’s 100 breast went to 17-year-old Jaycee Yegher of Rockville Montgomery in 1:12.30. She’ll have a tight race with Kingfish’s Mary Buckley (1:12.42) and Club Wolverine’s Emma Harris (1:12.54)
- University of Kentucky-bound Wyatt Amdor cut over a half second off his seed time to earn the top spot in the men’s 100 breast (1:04.16)
- Nation’s Capital went 1-2-4 in the women’s 100 fly, with 16-year-old Isabella Gati leading the way in 1:01.55
- Jack Saunderson of Towson University and Columbia Aquatic Club dropped a full second in the men’s 100 fly, touching in 53.87. He’s the top seed tonight by a full two seconds
- Nation’s Capital standout and incoming Michigan Wolverine James Jones declared a false start in the 100 butterfly.
- Bryanna Cameron of Solo Aquatics (4:54.36) and Lane Stone of Nation’s Capital (4:28.42) are the top seeds in the 400 IM
