The 2021-22 NCAA season rolls on this week with several more dual meets, a few intrasquads, and, most notably, some early-season invitationals.
Headlining the week is the SMU Classic, featuring some of the NCAA’s top teams in Michigan, Louisville, Arizona, Texas A&M and Missouri, along with the host Mustangs.
Michigan’s Maggie MacNeil, fresh off of setting a pair of Canadian National Records at the FINA World Cup in Berlin, is expected to be back in action to compete for the Wolverines. MacNeil is the defending NCAA champion in the women’s 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
The defending women’s team champion Virginia Cavaliers got their season off to a fast start last weekend, and they’ll be back at it with a unique meet against Georgetown. The event schedule for the meet is as follows:
- 50 u/w dolphin kick
- 50 breast pullouts
- 75s of each stroke
- 100 IM w/flip turns
- 100 50 fly/50breast
- 100 50 free/50back
- 25’s of each stroke
The Texas men also have a scheduled dual against Incarnate Word, while the Longhorn women will host the annual Dust Off Your Boots Invitational.
The first meet of the week will feature Indiana, Kentucky and the Indiana State women on Wednesday in Bloomington.
Friday’s scheduled dual between Notre Dame and Cincinnati has been canceled following the resignation of Irish head coach Mike Litzinger on Monday.
