Murphy tops Nolan in 100 back as Cal passes Stanford on Pac-12s night three
Cal’s Ryan Murphy got his first Pac-12 title by coming from behind to top Stanford’s Dave Nolan in a thrilling 100 back race. That was a microcosm of the team race, where Cal passed up Stanford for the Pac-12 lead on night 3.

Cordes went 51.23 to wipe away the championships record set by Cal’s Damir Dugonjic back in 2009. That mark was 51.41. Cordes was his typically great self in the back half, coming home in 26.81.

Cristian Quintero stayed on a roll this week, taking the 200 free in 1:32.81.

Defending champ Josh Prenot won the event for Cal, dropping two seconds from prelims. His 3:42.20 is still a half-second off what he went in winning this race as a freshman, but it does move him inside the top 10 in the NCAA this season.

Nolan 1:41.4, Tandy 18.8 as records fall on night 2 of men’s Pac-12s
Dave Nolan smoked a tough 200 IM field with a 1:41.49, just a few tenths off his NCAA-winning time from last season. He’s now the fourth man in the nation under 1:42 this season in what should be a crazy event come nationals.

Junior college transfer Brad Tandy is swimming in his first official NCAA meet, but he’s wasting no time in making his mark for Arizona. The junior went 18.80 to break the championships record, rocket to the top of the national rankings and become just the second man under 19 in the NCAA this season.
