Colorado Distance Freestyler Francesca Bains Verbals to Queens (NC)

“I’m so excited to announce that I am verbally committing to swim at Queens University of Charlotte! It has been a dream of mine to swim at Queens since the beginning of Junior year, and it has finally come true! A huge thank you to the coaches at Queens for making this happen, and to my family/club coaches who never stop supporting me and my dreams. I can’t wait to be a Royal Lion!”

Francesca Bains of Monument, Colorado has announced her verbal pledge to Queens University of Charlotte. Bains is a national-level miler who swims for the Woodmoor Waves in Colorado Springs. She competed in the 800 free and 400 IM at the 2016 Speedo Summer Junior Nationals. Two weeks prior she had been tearing it up at the Colorado LCM State Championships, where she won the 200m fly and 200/400m IM, was runner-up in the 100/200m free, third in the 100m fly, and fifth in the 50m free. Bains competed in the 200/500y freestyle events at 2015 Speedo Winter Juniors West.

Her top SCY times are:

  • 1650 free – 16:41.54
  • 1000 free – 10:01.36
  • 500 free – 4:53.46
  • 400 IM – 4:25.82

Both the Bluegrass Mountain Conference championships, which Queens has won in each of the last two years, and the NCAA Division II championships, which Queens has also won in each of the last two years, score the 1000 during their four-day meets. Bains fits nicely into the sweet spot of the Queens line-up, and will be an asset in the distance freestyles at both the conference and national levels. Her best times in the 1650, 1000, and 500 would all have scored in the top 8 at NCAAs last year.
