FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams swimming & diving squad signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, with three swimmers and one diver set to join the team for the 2016-17 campaign.
The CSU coaching staff believes the incoming group will bring a wide range of skills and a great attitude to Fort Collins.
“These four young ladies possess plenty of talent and a whole lot of potential, but our staff truly believes it is their character that will see them through their time with the Rams,” Head Coach Christopher Woodard said. “We believe that we landed a class of future record holders, captains and leaders in the community.”
Andrea Basile
Basile, a native of Pewaukee, Wisc., will arrive at Moby Pool after competing for the Waukesha Express swim team… Made NSCA cuts in the 200 and 400 IM, 200 back and 100 free… Reached the top eight in Wisconsin for three years in four different events – 200 and 400 IM, 200 free and 200 back… Was a Speedo finalist in the 200 IM… Was also a scholastic All-American and has been named to the honor roll each year in high school.
Woodard on Basile: “We are so pleased that Andrea Basile chose to join us here in Fort Collins. Andrea is beginning to find her stride again under the staff at Waukesha Express and her attitude and her character, made it an easy selection for our coaching staff. Andrea will join a talented IM group and has the versatility to impact our lineup in several areas.”
Jade Federlin
Federlin, a native of Austin, Texas, will come to Fort Collins after competing at Vandegrift High School and the Nitro Swimming club… Federlin is currently the Vandegrift team captain, and holds five team records at the school… Federlin led her team to the 2015 state championship, leading the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relay groups to first-place finishes… Was also a member of the National Honor Society, the UNICEF Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Woodard on Federlin: “Jade comes to us from the nationally-recognized Nitro Swimming program under Tim O’Brien and will bolster our lineup in the sprints and fly events. She has the experience as a captain and state champion that we know can transfer to the next level. We feel that Jade has a lot of room to grow and will be making an impact on our team very quickly.”
Madison Gess
Gess, a native of Montgomery, Texas, will join the Rams after competing for Montgomery High School and for the Team A&M Diving club… Gess was named first team all-state last season, and finished second in both her conference and the region, while taking third in sectionals in the 3-meter springboard… Gess was also a United States Diving Junior National Qualifier in 2015.
Diving coach Kevin Witt on Gess: “Madi is a great signing for the Ram diving team and will make an immediate impact on our team. She is a fantastic student, and is a very experienced and talented diver who competes both locally for her high school team, and at the club level in regional, zone, national, and senior level competitions throughout the country. We are very excited to welcome Madi to the Ram family, and are looking forward to having her here in the fall of 2016.”
Veronica Morin
Morin, a native of Woodland Park, Colo., comes to CSU after competing for Manitou Springs HS and the Colorado Torpedoes… Holds 14 Manitou Springs pool and school records… Was named all-state twice, and was also twice named The Gazette’s Peak Performer in women’s swimming… Placed six times at the 4A level in the 50 and 100 free…Was the anchor of her 200 medley relay team that earned All-America honors… Participated in the 2015 Junior Nationals in the 50 free… Is also a Salutatorian candidate at her high school, holding a 3.993 GPA.
Woodard on Morin: “We are thrilled that Veronica is joining the Ram nation. She is laser-focused and has the core values that we want members of our team to possess. Her work with coach Roy Chaney and the Colorado Torpedoes sets her up for great success in multiple events at the Mountain West level.”
