Colorado State Champ Keegan Foulke, Sam Steele Commit to Louisville

Keegan Foulke of the Jeffco Hurricanes and Sam Steele of Birmingham Swim League have both given their verbal commitment to the University of Louisville.

Foulke, a top-ranked prospect out of Colorado, swims for Pomona High School and won the 200 IM at the Colorado HS 5A State Championships. He also finished 4th in the 100 breast.

Foulke’s Top Times

  • 500 free – 4:27.81
  • 1650 free – 15:31.99
  • 100 breast – 57.41
  • 200 breast – 1:59.46
  • 200 IM – 1:50.13
  • 400 IM – 3:50.70

Foulke can excel at an impressive range of events, and would have been on the A/B bubble in the 400 IM at last year’s ACC Championships and would’ve made the C final in the 200 breast. He also boasts Winter National cuts in the 500 free, 1650 free, 200 breast, and 400 IM. The Cardinals will rely on him to score as a freshman, and he has the potential to do so.

Swimming for the Jeffco Hurricanes, Foulke competed at this summer’s U.S. Nationals. He finished 43rd in the 400 IM (4:27.26), 64th in the 200 IM (2:07.25), and 84th in the 200 breast (2:22.74).

Steele is a mid-distance freestyler out of Alabama, whose best event is the 200 freestyle. A look at his bests below (LCM in parentheses):

  • 200 free – 1:37.76 (1:52.37)
  • 500 free – 4:26.86 (3:58.66)
  • 100 fly – 49.34 (58.91)
  • 200 fly – 1:49.27 (2:05.90)

That 200 free is Steele’s strong point– he placed 19th at the 2015 U.S. Junior Nationals in that race in long course. His ability to stretch to the 500 as well as the butterfly will make him a versatile addition to the Cardinals roster.

All of the Cards’ 800 free relay members from their 2nd place relay at last year’s ACC Champs split a 1:36-low or better, but Steele has the talent to make a run for a spot on that relay in the next few years. He can already score at this meet in the 200 free, where his best puts him in position to make the C final.
