Colorado State Picks Up Verbal from Texas State Finalist Ashlyn Hembree

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ashlyn Hembree of Sugar Land, TX has announced her decision to swim for Colorado State University beginning in the fall of 2022. She is in her senior year at Richmond-George Ranch High School and she competes year-round with the First Colony Swim Team.

I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Colorado State University! I’m so thankful for my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who helped me get to where I am and make this happen. Both the CSU coaches and swimmers are supportive and welcoming. I can’t wait to call CSU my home! GO RAMS!

In March, Hembree competed at the 2021 UIL 6A Texas State Championships. The high school junior swam the 200 IM and the 200 free relay. She went a personal best time in the prelims heats of the girls’ 200 IM, touching in 2:05.59. She finished 8th in finals, going 1.5 seconds slower. Hembree led off the 200 free relay in 24.12. The relay team finished 6th.

She most recently competed at the 2021 Futures Championships in West Fargo, ND. She swam the 100 and 200 breast, the 200 and 400 IM, and the 100 free and 100 fly. She picked up two personal best times while leading off relays for First Colony Swim Team. She went a 1:00.27 in the 100 free and a 1:07.45 in the 100 back.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 breast – 1:05.24
  • 200 breast – 2:20.64
  • 100 fly – 56.81
  • 200 IM – 2:05.59
  • 400 IM – 4:28.72

Hembree will make an immediate impact on the Colorado State University women’s team when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2022. During the 2020-2021 season, she would have been the team’s second-fastest 200 breaststroker, and its third-fastest swimmer in the 100 fly, 200 breast, and 200 IM.

She will be joining free and fly specialist Leigha O’Connor as a member of the Rams’ class of 2026.
